Title: How to remove saddle bags?
Post by TA Tom on 04/03/08 at 11:51:49

I purchased a 2001 suzuki savage as my first bike from a co-worker.  It's his wife's old bike.  I completed the MSF course a couple of weeks ago.

I've looked through the manual and it doesnt detail how to remove the seat.  Which is what I assume is needed to remove the saddle bags.

Can one remove the rear seat only?  Is there some bolts on the underside I'm just missing?

You have to remove the front seat first, then there is a single bolt holding the rear seat on.

There are two bolts holding the front seat on, one on either side just under it and forward of the shocks. They are 10mm

I must just be an idiot.. I've searched all over the front seat for bolts or anything obvious and for the life of me I am unable to determine how it comes off.  :(

There are two bolts just under the seat forward of the shocks. I was editing my previous post when you posted again.

Yep..... and the front seat comes off with two 10mm metric bolts on each side.   fairly simple.....

Tom there are 2 bolts (10mm hex) that got through the frame and into the seat bracket. 3/4-7/8 of the way back under the seat pan. They go up at an angle and with saddle bacgs they may be harder to access.  I use a 1/4 dr. socket on a 3" or so extension.  Previous Owner (PO) may have changed them to slotted/phillips or allen head screws. Back of seat then lifts up and slide it back out of the front bracket. As this is one of the first steps to much of the maintenance, you would think the manual would have a picture and instructions. Happy wrenching, Max

Oops, the bolts are actually behind the upper shock mounts under the seat. Just took a look and realized my mistake.

thanks!  They're off now.  The support rails were more of an issue as they are bolted on from within the rear fender.

:D
