Title: Abnormal wear on carb parts? (slider and needle) Post by furious70 on 03/30/08 at 15:32:47 Finally got a chance to take the carb apart on my wife's bike to look at the random rich condition. The needle has a ring of wear (pic posted) that might warrant replacement? The slider was a little bit sticky, but not much. How touchy are these? Also, there's significant wear on the slider and the carb body (pic posted), the bore is scored a bunch like junk got in there. Is that usual? The carb itself is perfectly clean inside (as the shop had it apart 2 yrs ago so I expected it to be clean). Gas out of the bowl was clean. Comments on the needle and scoring would be appreciated. Thanks |
Title: Re: Abnormal wear on carb parts? (slider and needl Post by furious70 on 03/30/08 at 15:40:23 3713 kilobytes and cannot be uploaded. Getting that error for pics that are smaller than 250kb. For larger ones I'm getting a reasonable error stating the size > 250kb. Help? |

(slider and needl Post by Rockin_John on 03/31/08 at 01:21:22 Best to host your pictures elsewhere and just link to them, or display them here by pasting the URL of the picture/host between the image markers; which are most easily made by clicking little picture icon on the toolbar of the posting window. And on the carb... "a little sticky" isn't good enough on a CV type carb. |
Title: Re: Abnormal wear on carb parts? (slider and needl Post by furious70 on 03/31/08 at 05:56:34 I'll have to find somewhere to post them then, don't have a place. It's not sticky anymore, so hopefully I found the problem. Any thoughts on whether the needle needs replaced if I can see a ring where it seats? |
Title: Re: Abnormal wear on carb parts? (slider and needl Post by vroom1776 on 03/31/08 at 06:10:54 definitely replace it and make sure the slideis not sticky at all. I just had to replace a needle on my V*. makes a huge difference. |
Title: Re: Abnormal wear on carb parts? (slider and needl Post by furious70 on 03/31/08 at 06:22:24 Is $13+shipping the best price on it? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=014&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=330154536711&rd=1 |
Title: Re: Abnormal wear on carb parts? (slider and needl Post by furious70 on 03/31/08 at 06:25:03 How about the best place to buy a new main jet? I was going to do the spacer mod while I have it apart, but I cannot get 1 of the screws loose that hold that assembly together unfortunately. So instead of the $.10 mod I'll put the bigger jet in it while it's apart. $20 is the best I've found on that so far for pilot and main. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=011&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=320205547377&rd=1 |
Title: Re: Abnormal wear on carb parts? (slider and needl Post by Moofed on 03/31/08 at 07:01:36 Go find Lancer on the Marketplace board. He has jet sets (pilot and 3 main sizes) for $15. |
Title: Re: Abnormal wear on carb parts? (slider and needl Post by vroom1776 on 03/31/08 at 07:24:25 $20 is too much for a pair of jets. most dealerships will stock mimunis for <$5 each. heck, $5 each is too much... the same palce that is getting $5 per jet also wants $12 for an oil filter? WTF? |
