Post by sluggo on 03/28/08 at 10:49:55 don't you mean miles, milage is a measure of fuel usage. so if you got 37k on a tank i would say you win. ;D ;D if this one is like my last thumper, you can expect many more, just keep up the oil...... i rode the last one for 25years before it finally gave up the ghost, or more percisely i killed it. but it did not go gently into the night.. it's gave up lots of parts to my current ride. fenders, brackes, stuff like that. |

'05. Lost interest in the forum and has been a no-show since Apr. '06 -- but with a 20-y-o one owner bike he's either still riding or dead.. |

Title: Re: record for the most miles? Post by Rockin_John on 03/30/08 at 01:01:30 My 99 is at 28k miles and rolling. Oddly, the 87 is under 8K, and almost all of those were by to gentlemen over 70! I could see with a good maintenance schedule and keeping an eye on the known possible failures; beating them to the punch, and a bit of luck, how a Savage could make 80k-100k miles with a couple of top end rebuilds. The only thing I know of in the bottom end that is failure prone is the counterbalancing shaft. And I've heard of some transmission gears getting thrashed. But who knows what the riding circumstances were in those cases... |

When we went cross-country to visit relatives when I was a kid, she'd go a long ways out of the way so we could "see different scenery" on the way home. Following in her tradition, I very often turn down roads just because I've never been down that one before. It's gotten me into some trouble a few times too... but those are different stories. ;) What with gas prices nowadays, can't afford to run up the miles on the 4 wheel vehicles so much, but theres not much stopping roaming free on a motorcycle that gets decent mileage! |

Post by Robertomoe on 04/01/08 at 23:24:10 my valves rattle, my cam chain adjuster has about 1.5mm till the Verslagen mod extends itself out and my chain starts rattling, the header bolts were installed wrong (one is upside-down), my valve covers leak some oil, my front tire is going bald, the vacuum system is spotty, and the electrical system is taped in too many places the PO was really, really stupid by the looks of it. the seat was cracked, one of the mounting screws for it was replaced by an automotive screw that doesn't fit properly, the lip on the carb around the bowl is slightly cracked, the toolbox doesn't enjoy going on, both side covers were missing screws, the front seat clip is bent, the screws holding it and the tank down weren't long enough and one fell out, the screws hold backplate to the toolbox/battery cover are stripped, the rubber cover over the battery terminal is practically ripped apart, all the original screws for the tail light fell out (ask Verslagen, I pulled into his garage with the light hanging off my fender) and when I bought it, so many bolts were missing from the fender that according to my brother, it sounded like you dropped a toaster when you went over any bumps I still love it, it was just abused and I have trouble trusting it until I get it running without flaw |
