Title: Better Horn Post by DanGill on 03/27/08 at 11:28:28 I have got to get a louder horn! Can you recommend a replacement horn. I'd like one that a) is much louder b) doesn't require new wiring and c) is inexpensive (read cheap-as-dirt) |
Title: Re: Better Horn Post by Savage_Rob on 03/27/08 at 12:04:09 I picked up a replacement car horn at Harbor Freight very cheap and put it on. It works well. I need to add a relay and you should probably do the same. It'll save your thumbswitch contacts. |

Installing it is on my list of projects for the bike. |
Title: Re: Better Horn Post by nervekiler on 03/28/08 at 10:29:34 ive installed that horn once on a isuzu box truck at work.. WOW! i definately wanna get it for my bike. you will seriously turn some heads those little air horns are great. i would reccomend them to anyone who wants a big sound in a small package. |
Title: Re: Better Horn Post by sluggo on 03/28/08 at 10:46:48 i went with a standard cage horn, works great 8 bucks and no additional wiring. i left the chrome horn on for appearance, and mounted using the refector hole on the other side. ya awt to see the ole blue hairs when they hear that one and dont' see any thing. |
Title: Re: Better Horn Post by FreeSpirit on 03/28/08 at 10:48:51 Is it hard to install? (The Bad Boy) (I've been wanting a louder horn also!) Is it obnoxiously loud or just loud? :) |
Title: Re: Better Horn Post by sluggo on 03/28/08 at 10:51:10 mine... one screw in the reflector hole and move the wire over. that's less than one beer's work. and it's pretty darn loud. but it's not the bad boy. mine works well for 8 bucks. or more... that was his requirement loud, cheep, easy to install. |

So you removed the wire to the original horn and connected the cage horn there? 8 bucks does sound good :) Or rather you connected the cage horn where the original horn was connected......(sorry,havent looked to see exactly how the horn is connected :-[ |
Title: Re: Better Horn Post by sluggo on 03/28/08 at 10:57:27 yup thats excatly what i did. i hated the reflectors and this filled the space nicely. wire reached no problem. |
Title: Re: Better Horn Post by nervekiler on 03/28/08 at 11:02:06 the bad boy should be simple. i hooked it directly up to the cagers factory wiring didnt need the relay (the car uses one).. not sure if the bike would need the relay. hardest part i could imagine woudl be mounting that bad boy on the bike.. its a decent size peice of equipment.. but where theres a will theres a way. just gotta get creative. i personally would mount it where the airbox is. sure after removing it (going to a cone filter) you would have plenty space and keep it decently hidden from the eyes. |

I mounted an old cager horn on mine and put on the exhuast support close to the frame. I think I saw someone mount the rectifier there recently as well. It's a nice bit of room that's out of the way but close to the battery for easier hookup. :) |
Title: Re: Better Horn Post by KwakNut on 03/28/08 at 13:24:47 Just find a nice big old car horn and mount it to your bike - with a relay and some reasonable gauge wire to the main fuse area. Even with a bike horn, you'll get more current and a louder squeak if you use a relay and supply the horn with a good thump of current through a nice fat wire. |
Title: Re: Better Horn Post by thumperclone on 03/28/08 at 16:37:12 auto zone cager horn low tone $12 mounted to stock location..not as loud as bad boy but better than stock... |
Title: Re: Better Horn Post by Paladin. on 03/28/08 at 17:11:53 For cheap horns you could try the local automotive bone yard. Look for a Caddy, take both, spend a few bucks for a relay. You can see where I replaced my side reflectors with horns: http://paladin.savageriders.com/images/7inch-headlight.jpg |

Title: Re: Better Horn Post by eanon on 03/29/08 at 21:04:42 That's not really much of a decision. Get the kid to do it. If you don't have a kid, pay the neighbor's kid to do it! ;) |
