Title: Belt Squeek........ Post by skrapiron on 03/26/08 at 20:00:16 God I hate that sound! If I tighten my belt too much, it squeaks. If I loosen it too much, it squeeks. If I get it just right, its fine for 30 miles, then it starts squeeking again. I'm SOOOO frustrated! Other than replacing my belt every week, what can I do? I don't really want to invest in the $189.00 belt tension tool so how much deflection should I have when the belt is 'just right' ? |
Title: Re: Belt Squeek........ Post by demin on 03/26/08 at 20:02:43 General consenses is: Half way between wheel, and front pulley on the bottom part of the belt ,you should be able to twist it 90 degrees. |
Title: Re: Belt Squeek........ Post by Reelthing on 03/26/08 at 20:06:21 folks have been known to use beeswax or the belt lube from HD on the sides of the belt - |
Title: Re: Belt Squeek........ Post by verslagen1 on 03/26/08 at 20:22:20 A fellow mentioned earlier that his pulley bearing/bushing? was wobbling, check that. Also, there's a set of dampers behind the pulley that might need a bit of lube. (mine are worn, but no squeek) And check the airbox for mice ;D |
Title: Re: Belt Squeek........ Post by serowbot on 03/27/08 at 09:11:31 I sometimes give the edges of the belt a light sanding to take the glaze off. That quiets her down for me. |

Post by vtail on 03/27/08 at 10:12:12 Hub Shock Absorber #4; 6 of them and sprocket drum #14 might need some silicone lube and/or cleaning. http://fiche.ronayers.com/Index.cfm/Module/Main/TypeID/26/Type/Motorcycle/MakeID/2/Make/Suzuki/YearID/48/Year/2007/ModelID/7562/Model/LS650/GroupID/358588/Group/REAR_WHEEL_ ;) |
Title: Re: Belt Squeek........ Post by sluggo on 03/27/08 at 10:37:41 i've said this before but it bears repeating. the squeek, like my wife's nagging, i've learned to tune out. :o 8-) that to me is the simplest solution to the problem.... |
Title: Re: Belt Squeek........ Post by skrapiron on 03/27/08 at 12:16:44 Normally, I'd agree with you, Sluggo. But the last thing I want is my belt self destructing at 60mph...... I looseded it (again), then tightened the axle nut to 90 ft/lbs (the book calls for 80 ft/lbs). I have it to where I can almost turn it 90* right in between the front and rear sprocket on the bottom. So far, so good. 86 miles today and no squeek (yet). I'll keep my fingers crossed. Now I have to figure out why my wife's scooter refuses to idle properly. My work is never done..... |
Title: Re: Belt Squeek........ Post by sluggo on 03/27/08 at 23:33:12 i keep an eye on my belt due do to a rock puncture. have seen no evidence of side wear in over 15,000 miles, or any additional problems with the puncture. it's really tiny. |
