Post by franch on 03/13/08 at 13:19:36

If you have a pick or small center punch, tap it out LIGHTLY.Also it only comes out one way,if you notice one side has a little flange on it.

Also a small nail will also work if you don't have a small enough punch.

Any other good way to go about this?  Im stuck, just like the pin im trying to remove..... I've tried punching it, tried working it out with wire cutter pliars.... no luck.  This pin has me at its mercy!

PB Blaster,wd40 let it sit awhile. You did notice the flanged side right?Just checking.

yeah, going after the flanged side.  I doused the thing in PB a couple times already, guess Ill go for it again and then find a proper punch.... been using a nail.

The tip of the nail might be too big.It has to be just corroded in,because they are held in basically with the float bowl.

I haven't to take mine off but......  from Savage Greg's pict's on the card spec's thread (  http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?board=tech;action=display;num=1098869040 )  it looks the pin is shaped like a nail.  CAN THAT BE RIGHT???????  If so, it would need to be pried off from one side.

That's why I was saying it had a little flange on one side, couldn't think what else to call it. :-?

yeah i tried working a screwdriver or anything into the "flanged" side to pry it off, but I really couldnt get anything in there.  I guess it would help if I had a proper vise, hammer, and punch instead of my lap, an old nail, and the heavy side of a screwdriver... hahah

Lap is probably better. You don't want to put to much pressure on those little tangs. ;)

So.......   the pictures also show that the other side, the hole doesn't go all the way thru.   Did you drill yours out so that you can push from the non-flanged side?????

Next,  do you have a soldering iron?   Old school methods here.  ;)
Freeze the carb for a few hours then take the hot soldering iron to the metal the pin fits into (tower, bracket, thing-a-ma-bob..... pick one).  Touch on it for only a short time.  The metal should expand some and then you might be able to get it out.......  Then again,  it might be stuck stuck....... :-?

When you freeze it,  throw it in a ZIP lock bag.  The better half might not want tomorrow's supper smelling like gas.....  :P

Both of mine the holes go the whole way through.

Wait, I didnt drill anything out, I thought that was the other side of the pin on the non-flanged side.  So I've been tapping on a cover to the pin?  Oh goodness.

hmm, dont have a soldering iron, but that method might be the answer, i think its truly stuck otherwise.

This stuck pin goes along well with the rest of my bike, everything appears to be stuck.... front brake pin.... 4 screws on top of carb... the frame of my bike in my backyard until i get this carb fixed....

ALso remember that there is a certain point where taking it some where (machine shop ) woudl be cheaper than breaking it.....

Big old screwdriver and a propane  (LP) torch.  Get it red hot ......

EDIT: remember, you only want to touch against it till it's warm.  You don't want to melt anything.

I was going to refer you to the tech section, where Savage wahine did her carb. But the pics are so big you can't see anything.(at least on my comp.)

Think I'm gonna opt for the machine shop advice.  Im afrad that me + propane torch = 1 useless carb.

Yeah appears that she got it out by prying it... you can see the pics smaller if you right click and go to view image.  I've read that thread probably 100 times!

I had the same problem.  A little wd-40, and a flat head glasses screwdriver did the trick.

got it out... took it to a mechanic friend and he had a better punch.  Thing came right out.
