Title: Before you spend that money on a new seat...... Post by skrapiron on 03/11/08 at 15:49:59 Consider replacing the rear shocks instead. Alot of people (myself included) have spent alot of money trying to find a more comfortable saddle for the Savage. We've gone with memory foam, lamb-skin covers, gel pad, air pads even wood beads trying to make the seat more comfortable. In more extreme cases, people are fitting expensive aftermarket seats to the bike. (I do like to look of the sprung solo saddles!) Even with a saddle that was more comfortable than my La-Z-Boy recliner, my back and butt would still hurt after a long ride. That is until I changed my rear shocks. I put on a set of Progressive Suspension 4005c shocks (intended for the Harley FLX/FDX/Sportster which is much heavier than the Savage) and could not believe the difference. I had to machine the bushings (because it was a metric stud and came with 1/2 bushing) but they do make a metric 4233c shock. They're pricey (around $270.00 shipped) but once you put them on your bike, you're going to think you're riding on a cloud. It is so much better, I put my stock seat back on. It feels better than my custom seat. (alot more supportive). Something to consider before you break out the grinder and the tig welder to get that Corbin to fit..... |

I have a 1500 intruder when they came out motorcycle magazines said it is the best seat in motorcycles. So I have the best and the worst according to what some people say here. 1500 is a real wide seat even the passengers. |

I've felt very comfortable on the asphalt back hill roads, but spent about 60 miles on San Diego freeways getting bounced and rattled around and my back was hurting. I wasn't sure if it was the rattling or the seating position. My gludious maximus is fine however with the stock seat, but I'm a skinny guy weighing 140 dripping wet. |

Post by bill67 on 03/13/08 at 01:45:16 Yes Stumusic,that right the shocks are very stiff,motorcycles are made so they can carry two people,so you have to figure that would be about 300 to 350 pounds so when you are light the suspension doesn't work much.The bigger guys on here want notice as much as the smaller guys and girls.The progressive shocks really make a difference,and your getting a little more travel. |
