Title: Pieces of Savage or?
Post by bike-fixer on 02/26/08 at 18:32:58

Hi, I just last week purchased an S-40 in wrecked condition. Obvoiusly I am in need of some parts and do not wish to pay the full tarriff the dealer wants for them. I looked on Ebay last week and found nearly everything I needed, But, after a careful detailed look at enlarged pictures of the parts realized that most of them were busted worse than what I already had. The headlight offered had been glued back together and carefully photographed so as to not make it obvious. The turn signals I wanted had been taped together.
I was amazed that anyone would even try to sell such faulty merchandise. I am glad I saw it before bidding.
Now I realize that I do not need the exact headlight model for this bike but if affordable, a stock one would be first choice. I also need a tail light assembly, left rear turn signal, Left footpeg and the halfshell part of the front brake assembly that holds the mirror. Oh and a matched pair of mirrors.
I already have the engine running like a song and rode it around my neihborhood to be sure it shifts in all gears. All is much smoother than I expected. The tank is lightly damaged but nothing that some careful bondo won't fix. If I have to get other than stock for the rear turn signal, I will want a matched pair so that it looks OK.
Anyone on this site have any of the parts I have mentioned?

Some have put the rear lights on a bar on the license plate, often needed to allow bags to fit. If you go to LED units then you'll have to change the flasher to make them work. Seems like there was a headlight with single bolt bottom mount someplace I surfed recently. Years ago I made my Honda SL125 ones quick detach by cutting the round brackets that the upper fork tunes went through off enough and used hose clamps to hold the lamp brackets in place. Do you live  close enough to visit a cycle Savage yard to look for items that cane be adapted to work. the Savage like something other than stock. Max

Go to http://www.mcstuff.com/dcm/ms/index.asp find your local dealer.

I know they have turn signals that are replicas of the originals and sell the stems and lenses separate if thats all you need, and they have some emgo mirrors that are decent for a good price. For the pegs, I ordered some aftermerkets from them and modified them to fit. They have emgo lense units that should fit in the bucket also. As for the tail light you may have to go aftermarket or pop for oem.

I think it would be about $120 without the tail light and based on their 2006 suggested prices.

I think the infamous JCWhitney has Savage tail light stems. They must be pretty universal.

I like the idea of the light bar in the rear as I intend bags.

Thanks

saw someone parting out three LS650's.

Use the eBay search criteria:
"suzuki (LS650, LS 650, S40, Savage)"

Results will be anything with Suzuki LS650 OR suzuki LS 650, OR suzuki S40 OR suzuki savage.

Don't forget to save the search.....

Local bike shop donated a pair of turn signals. Not S-40 but I can make them do.
10 dollar Harley front fender cleaned and put through glass bead machine and primed.
Left front signal repaired from what I had.
The project starts.

Just traded a sixpac of beer for a new set of handlebars.
I will have to whittle a set of risers to make them fit. But for the price,OK.
