Title: pod filter install
Post by maxreps on 02/24/08 at 19:55:22

I am trying to figure out how a pod filter like Lancer offers can be installed. The bike is an '03 and after removing the rubber tube I measured the available space. Looks like the longest filter that'd fit would be about 3.5" maybe 3.75" and the very most. Are these supposed to be installed after something is done to the airbox elbow that the rubber tube was attached to or do you just cram the filter in the available space?

Also, since it doesn't need oiling it's not a cotton material and is obviously not a foam filter so what the heck is it??

Can anyone shed some light on this..   I know alot of you guys have them but I'm not sure if something is different with this bike for some reason or if I'm missing a trick.

By Pod, do you mean Cone?  On the Cone filters, the normal procedure is to totally remove the airbox.

or you can leave the air box by using a 180 degree abs p trap. it sends the pod facing forward on the right side.

Or you can mount the air filter IN the air box!  Novel idea!

wow.. who would have thought that..   ;D

at this point on thumper the airbox serves as support for the front spring on the springer seat.

you can take the airbox out, and cut/gouge a groove/hole in it so that the filter fits.  You can keep the side covers that way.  Uh, also, it may or may not fit over the battery box.  Search for greg_650 (hahaha he's got too many posts) as he lowered his battery box to fit his pod, but he also removed the airbox and sidecovers.

in the second pic, the breather filter needs to go ABOVE the engine.

and you can do a better looking job than me.  the hidden bolt on the airbox is down on the left side of the bike.   loosening or removing the belt guard makes access easier.
