Post by SavageBabe on 02/23/08 at 12:25:58

I know nothing about bikes, just know what i like. i saw a post where a guy took his Savage and turned it into a bobber? I saw the pics and I see the seat is different and few other things but just makes it a bobber? Sorry if its a stupid question....lol

a bobber is a bike that has of parts taken off and the fenders cut down or "bobbed."

A lot of times the turn signals and mirrors are taken off along with unnecessary parts.

unnecessary parts??? Whats unnecessary? As far as mirrors and turn signals, i have to have those on, cant drive the bike on base with out them. I will be looking to customize my bike in about 6 months or so have no clue about what i want  yet. It most def needs a paint job and I want a single seat since i never have any intentions on have a passenger on back.

Unnessary parts?  half of the rear fender, the chrome fender supports, backrest if you got one, stock muffler and heat shield, rear pegs.

Some parts are necessary but can be minimized, signals, brake light, license plate mount and light.

The problem with cutting off the back end is you can't put saddlebags on or the occasional passenger.

The idea is to make the bike as light as possible to give you a better power/weight ratio and consequently better acceleration. The things that are usually stripped are chrome panels, side covers, belt guards, most of the rear fender, passenger pegs, etc. Then things like lights, exhaust, license plate, mirrors, seat etc are replaced with lighter-weight versions thereof.

How much weight would this save in a bike like the above one?

it's better than the stock seat.  A lot.  like 40 miles on the stock seat = tears, 200 miles on this one = smiles!

yeah i bet that seat gets your body in a great position. i hate the seat on these bikes becuase it sits way too far forward. i almost get clostraphobic just riding to work. i wanna strech out a bit on mine.
when i bob mine here soon i wanna get a seat similar in shape but with a little coushin think i might make the seat myself at work.  learn a little bit of uhpolstrie (sp?)

thanks for the kind words, i aim to please at home and away.

your's and mine represent the two ends of the spectrum of how to bob a bike.  both are great.  i've always loved rat bikes.

i placed it there to cover up an awkward blankspace.

i'm not the only one running a troll.  i believe  paladin does also.

hey lets start something, all put troll dolls somewhere kinda like a gremlin bell.  let the troll fight the gremlins off. everyone knows trolls and gremlins are sworn enemies.

I like that Sluggo! Great idea! Will install a troll on my scoot when I eventually haul 'er out of storage ... we're still in the grips of a nasty winter over here ...  :'(
