Hey guys, i am still a newbie here but i have seen many pictures and i think I was to paint my tins, I have a 00' savage with the green paint of that year. I have already removed the stickers and would feel comfortable taking off tins to paint the bike. I was thinking a flat black. what are your suggestions?? simple spray paint after sanding and priming?? open to all ideas.

I think I read where it's illegal to use flat black unless you mod the fenders some. Almost have to go Bobber to use flat black & it look right. Any particular color that you liked seeing on stuff when you were a kid? Maybe you could spend some time experimenting with colors befors you decide. A bent fender from a bodyshop would give you some practice on prepping an already painted surface & a chance to paint on something that wouldnt matter if it looked bad.

so i need a t-shirt and i am good to go, i like it. wait till my tax refund gets into the bank... ill be riding in style. Thats a good idea on some scrap tin. I will see what I can find this weekend. Thanks.

On several car sites there has been talk of the '$50 roller paint job'. Here are a couple links to what people have done with a roller.

I once did a rattle can job on my Tracker, it looked good from a distance, but was rough up close. But on that vehicle I didn't really care.

Some local here in East Tx did his whole Dodge Ram in bed liner. Or maybe it was undercoating, but it was black, rubberized stuff with lumps in it. Horrid.

13/69,, cool, I LOVE exceptions to rules. When I cant find 'em, I try to make 'em.

I did mine in black pickup truck bed liner from rattle cans. Turned out good IMHO. :)

I have an old jeep that I did all the inside floor boards with some roll on bed liner, came out pretty nice. but i could not imagine a car with that for the exterior, agree on disgusting.

There was a bike on e-bay not too long ago done in bedliner and advertised as the "ultimate redneck cruiser" It touted "never have to worry about polishing your bike again!" It didn't sell, and at the time I wondered about his er,uh sales approach?, I like your use of diamondplate and the red seat to offset the tank[edit] Denim, (Sorry, senoir moment) Nicely done! The other one was done completely in bedliner and just looked like it had been driven through a mudpuddle and left to dry!

I'll have pics up once it's reassembled, but I've had great success with Duplicolor high-heat 1200f paints. The low-gloss black comes out really satiny and holds up to gas spills after curing for a couple of weeks. The gloss colors look good, too, and can be wet sanded/polished.

I painted my Suzuki with a roller this winter using Rustoleum. Cost me less than $50 for paint and supplies. Did it in my garage over a week and turned out really great. And REALLY easy to do. Key was to keep the paint coats light and then polish it good at the end. Looks like an old fashion single color paint job from the pre-clear coat days. Doesn't have that plastic look. Couple people thought I had an old bike (it's painted forrest green).

how does it resist gasoline? i have been wanting to try that technique. my savage will be a good candidate.

No problems with it so far. Spilt some on it and just wipped it up. No fading or discoloring. I understand it from reading that takes a few months to cure really good, but then it's much harder and resistant than normal auto paint. I painted mine in late fall and it's really tough now.
