Title: OUCH!!!
Post by nef584 on 02/09/08 at 18:25:53

I finally took my S40 for a long ride today.  ;D First ride since getting the carb fixed, and what happens? An older #@$%#@%$#$% guy cuts me off and next thing I know I'm riding on my backside for about 50-75 feet from my bike.  >:( >:(  It was that or slamming into the guy. Bad thing is I've got some road rash on both of my legs and my rear. :'( Good thing was that by some miracle my thumper only suffered a broken rear turn signal and  slight scratches on the shock and pegs. :) Anyone have a spare turn signal?

BTW S40 is riding real nice after the carb mods and the sportster muffler. Feels like a totally different bike... 8-)

Ouch!  Heal up quickly!

Those rear turn signals do like to snap off!   If you can't get a used one, Oneida Suzuki mail orders them pretty quickly and under list price.  You can usually put together the broken one with duct tape and an orange bulb till the new one arrives.  Of course, I wouldn't know this from personal experience...   ;D

Good Lord you were lucky.  Glad to see you are ok; and the bike only took minor damage.  I bet the other guy didn't even stop.

Thanks guys, only thing really hurt is my pride ;D ;D ; The paramedics cut my pants down the seams on both legs, made my jeans look like a skirt :-[. I had to tape them together just to leave the hospital. :P  ;D

Oh, so that's why you ran out of duct tape for the turn signal!

What will happen to the dirtbag that cut you off?  Fines? Lawsuit?  Anything?

I have some spare turn signals off of an 87 Savage. Don't know if that is one of the minor changes made to the bike or not though.

You're right Forrest the guy didn't even attempt to stop. >:( A passerby tried to catch up to him but lost him. >:( happened so fast didn't get a chance to look at the tag. But I'll recognize the car anywhere, old faded pink ford granada. ;)

Hopefully I'll run into him while at work... ;) God I hope I do.

Its just very good all you got was some road rash, and some scratches on the bike. You were very lucky and I'm glad you're alright.

I know I would be out head hunting if that had happened to me.

Glad to hear you didn't break anything and the bike is OK. Road rash can really svck, keep it clean with some hydrogen peroxide, chicks dig scars ;).

darn.  A pink Granada?  That guy had issues, and with that car, he shouldn't be too hard to spot.  Need to stick it to him for leaving the scene of an accident

Glad that you're okay, though.

That kind of thing happens so fast.
Remember, 90% of everyone out there can not see us, and the 10% that do wants to kill us

Get better, and get right back in the saddle.

Glad you are ok, the road rash will stiffen up for a few days, indeed keep the peroxide/antibiotic cream cleaner available and some serious pain meds should you need them.   ;)

When i went in to the doctor to get some antibiotic cream and bandages for my road rash awhile ago, they told me not to use peroxide, but alcohol (topically) instead. Apparently peroxide kills not only the bacteria, but also your own cells, making your wounds heal more slowly and less cleanly. I guess alcohol doesn't do that? Either way, make sure to keep it moist with cream/gel covered in linen bandages so it can still breathe.

get well soon! it took a couple of weeks for mine to heal completely, and it still looks kinda gnarly, but even so, its true, chicks dig scars.

yeah i have never used peroxide ever, with patient wound care. they make special wound cleansers for that type of thing. just remember two things 1) keep it clean 2) keep it covered, except when cleaning. every time you uncover it, the wound drops in temperature, and with the temp drop, the healing process slows considerably. wound temp needs to stay the same as body temp to heal quickly. dressing changes should only be done daily, unless they become saturated, or soiled.

Thanks for all the advice guys ;). I really appreciate it.

Well I'm glad to say that I'm almost at 100% again, just a small scar on my right knee is all that is left from the road rash.  ;D Now about my bike I glued the turn signal back together with some clear epoxy and its working fine. The left front foot peg twisted a tad but it's still usable. I took it for a run last weekend and it is running gooooood!!!  8-) Now the issue is convincing the missus to let me keep it after the wipeout.  :( Well guys Wish me luck.  ;)

yeah, that can be a tough one sometimes.. just point out that we all take a spill of one sort or another, you got your's out of the way early.

my count is at six times in thirtyfive years.

remember,  sliding not bad, sudden stop bad....

Joy is a powerful healing agent. Ride the bike & be darned caREful. She wont likely want to watch ya heal up again. Unless she rides, she really dont get it. Let her know you love her more than anything, but the freedom of riding is crucial to your hearts happiness. Well, IF thats really how ya feel,,

Now is the time to drop a few hundred on some GOOD leathers.

Use them to reassure the lady, and consider them not a present to yourself but an investment in yourself.  ;)
