Title: I need more help /pics of bobber
Post by thump on 02/02/08 at 08:35:47

I just rode my bike up the street and it was running great. I pulled into my driveway stopped and my engine just shut off. I tried to crank it back up and its not doing anything its not turning over its not even clicking no sound whatsoever. the bike has a brand new battery and spark plug. could it be the starter if so how can i tell?
any help would be great thanks.

Have you hit the "kill" switch by accident and left it in the off position?

Any lights? Check batt. connections & fuses. If nothing else works, run a hot wire to the yellow wire on the decom control module( use a switch), This will fire the starter IF there is power to run it & IF the starter solenoid is healthy & connected.( I THINK it is the yelllow wire. It's been a long time since I did this) It is the input to the decomo sol timer that I used. Mine used to refuse to start, no idea why, hasnt doine that to me in a very long time, but this is the way I beat the hassle. Used a tiny switch off the front of a dvd player, no way that switch would handle an amp, very small, still on the circuit board, inside 2 layers of "finger" from a nitrile glove. I keep it, just in case.

Hmmmm ...  was waiting for a reply ..  My first post was thinking the kickstand went down with bike in gear triggering the interlock.....

As you can see form Justin's post, we need more in.
1) were the light on?
2) Did you check the fuses??
2) HOW stripped is your bobber??  Removing the handle bar kill swicth means you swapped out the throttle, which means you had to rewire a starter button somewhere.  I would think that if you re-wired the bike, you should check connections again.  I have a nice driveway with smooth entry, but most have a bump or incline.  You could have knocked something loose.

But then agian,  no response could mean you fixed it and are out riding again    ;D

Fuses blow for a reason, I'd check your wiring and electronics.

How do you "strip" the kill switch on the bike?

I agree.  Fuses don't blow for shi%s and grins.  I't s a sign that something isn't right.

the bike was running great until i turned the bike off and tried to crank it back up when I did it blew the same fuse again. so I looked at the wires on the bike and noticed that the back tire was rubbing the tail light wires so I disconnected the light wires and know its not blowing the fuse. loks like I will be rewirering the bike today

check the headlight wiring too while you're at it.  There's been several cases of a headlight wire short.   ;D

Different Throttle housing/control unit/thing-a-ma-bob....

Thump / Andy,
I like the tank .....  hard tail struts too,  looks nice.

Good luck on tweaking the wiring routing.
