Title: Running without a gas tank?
Post by FrankieB on 01/26/08 at 14:13:16

Hey guys, I currently have my tank being worked on and have done some slight modifications while it's been off the bike. I would like to make sure the bike still starts up but don't have the tank. Is there anyway to start the bike and have it run for a few seconds without a gas tank? Someone mentioned possibly spraying some type of fluid on the carbs while I try and turn it over but I don't want to mess anything up. Let me know.

Thanks.

find a funnel that fits the fuel line, tape to frame, put a small amount of gas in funnel.

Buy a cheapo 1 gal. can. You can either just siphon it or get some fittings and pop a hole in the bottom of the can.

I beleave Savage Greg did a post on how do it up right.  Maybe in the tech section.   ;D

Fuel in the bowl oughta have it running long enough to prove it will.

old plastic lawnmower gas tank with a pinch clamp on the fuel hose to shut it off.

Go find a old Snowblower or Roto-tiller, or lawn-edger with a Tecumseh engine w/horizontal crank.  The tank will work near perfectly.

About a quart or 2 of fuel.   You should be able to go round a short suburban block to get your riding "Fix"...... 8-)

For a few seconds you should have enough in the carb to start it (unless you had the carb off and dumped the gas out).

Plug the petc0ck vent nipple on the right side, so that it won't be sucking air in there, too...

To test fire the FireLizard today before I put on the tank, I hooked up a piece of old fuel line from a car to the carb and used an old syringe (with needle removed) that I used to use to give my dog injections.

I filled the syringe with gas and injected the fuel through the line to fill the carb bowl. Worked perfectly.

You should retire that syringe. You dont want to give your dog gas.

That syringe broke anyhow, so my dog is perfectly safe from getting gas. From the syringe anyway.

(wasn't sure if you meant it as a joke which was funny if you did, or if you were serious)
