Title: Strange Smell Post by firsts40 on 01/22/08 at 17:53:04 The last two times I rode my 06 S40, I smelled a strange smell when I turned it off after about 6-7 miles. It smelled like it came from the engine or the pipe. I Just waxed the chrome which included the chrome covers on the engine. If I had forgot some of the wax, would it give off a smell when it got hot? The second time, it didn't seem to smell as bad. I checked the oil, it is at the correct level. It does not smell like any wiring, or oil, I know what that smells like. If the belt is rubbing on the front sprocket, would that be a possibility? It runs great as it always has, and there are no odd noises. Any suggestions? |

Don't get caught by the cook! (You might try using a disposable aluminum pie tin.) |
Title: Re: Strange Smell Post by Phelonius on 01/23/08 at 09:09:32 Critter crawled up the pipe and cooked? Phelonius |
Title: Re: Strange Smell Post by justin_o_guy2 on 01/23/08 at 10:41:11 If this is a concern, just drop the sidestand a bit & raise it back up with the throttle at about 1/2... oughta spit anything smaller than a Rhino.. |

If you sorta bump a plastic bag when putting the bike into the garage it'll stink of burning plastic for about a month. It eventually fades away. |
Title: Re: Strange Smell Post by firsts40 on 01/23/08 at 13:22:10 I believe it was wax on the backside of the pipe, or a critter is not out of the question, since it was sitting for a few days while it was in the 30's and raining. I tend to lean to the wax because goes away a little each time I run it. Thanks to all who responded |
Title: Re: Strange Smell Post by Savage_Greg on 01/23/08 at 13:31:06 Since it runs "as great as always" I doubt that you have problem. |
Title: Re: Strange Smell Post by thumperclone on 01/23/08 at 17:09:34 no more frieoles in the tank will cure the smell... |
Title: Re: Strange Smell Post by justin_o_guy2 on 01/24/08 at 11:12:04 Try unzipping your coveralls. |
Title: Re: Strange Smell Post by firsts40 on 01/24/08 at 23:15:04 If I zipped the coveralls, I would peal the paint on my tank |
Title: Re: Strange Smell Post by justin_o_guy2 on 01/25/08 at 08:26:43 so, you have no problems with tailgaters? |
Title: Re: Strange Smell Post by firsts40 on 01/25/08 at 08:38:39 None at all, and no problems at work with crowd control ;D |
Title: Re: Strange Smell Post by Savage_Greg on 01/27/08 at 09:24:16 I am sure that we've all learned something from this conversation. I know that I have :P |
Title: Re: Strange Smell Post by firsts40 on 01/28/08 at 06:47:08 On a serious note.............I beleive it was only a little wax on the back side of my pipe near the head, because it didn't seem to be as bad last night when I took her to work. I checked the cooling fins and couldn't see anything that was stuck in them. Thanks guys for the replies........both serious and not serious. :) :) |
