JD, in case you hadn't noticed, it took them 19 years to make the first big change.  So to answer your question, the next one might come around the year 2021.

Of course, some of us don't think it has changed, and the rest don't want it to ever change :P

Of course, I hadn't noticed if the colors are new...Suzuki needs to bring back some of those blues, yellows and reds in the earlier models.  Seems like after 2000, all the colors are the same.

Oh, I'm just whining...but when you go in the dealership you have to walk down the whole row of bikes just to figure out which one is the S40.  All the Boulevards look the same when jammed up together (they do that here so that you have to ask to sit on one)...

The battery box looks black for the same reason you see a black stripe on the muffler (Did they paint a black stripe on the muffler, or are my eyes deceiving me? NOT!!!). THE ENVIRONMENT BEHIND THE PHOTOGRAPHER WAS BLACK, and the battery box was at a perfect angle. Notice the differences in the top of the battery box from the top and middle photo. In the top photo, tho picture was taken at a slightly lower angle than the middle photo. The top of the battery box in the top photo shows a bit of shine, which gives it away. Is wasn't a black hole or photoshop any of this mumbo jumbo...

The red one looks good. Send me one.
By the way, I don't like the handle bars of recent years, they're too uncomfortable. My 2002 has the original staghorn bars and they fit me perfectly.
If they change anything, please give me a Speedo/Tach in the middle of the handlebars so I don't have to take my eye off the road to check them. They could also get rid of one of the gears, say, get rid of 5th gear. I would like a lower 1st gear so I can go 5mph at idle.

Stopped by the Suzuki bike shop yesterday to get some oil and a new filter. Guess what I saw sitting in the showroom?? The 08 Boulevard!
The black engine looks cool, especially the bared fins (I had originally planned on doing that with mine). The seat is really firm!!! I was tempted!
It seemed lower for some reason, but I guess I'm just used to my 1 1/2 inch risers.

Yeah, we takes them ugly yuppie safety stickers right on off our traditional thumper-type bikes, we does.

Yep, cheerfully retro we are .... old and crippled and still riding jest dandy on a scoot that fits in all the right ways.

Fits in weight, fits in power (35 ponies is jest about perfect for a get around bike) fits in handling, fits in ease and low cost maintainability.

Fits because it is so wonderfully understressed and overdesigned from the factory we can play games making it run so much better.

See, it's both a bike and a hobby, all in one.  It can be a swelt bobber type hooigan bike for those who want that action and a wee little traditional bagger (like mine) for those who need that style bike.

It can be a side car hauler and a custom bike show winner.

Now, you folks know the real reason Lancer bought a 883 Sportster don't you?   So he can put his son on it and trounce his butt with his Savage when he puts it back together with the hot cam & ported head that he just finished a'building for himself.  (hee hee)

We luvs our savage little scoots, now don't we?

I did that to mine, but it actually took me a couple hours with a good file (and boy do those fins ring when you file them).

The fins on the later models are actually machined or something.  A little extra touch.  The fins are flat on the edges.  On the earlier models, the fins are kinda rough cast....in other words, it won't look as good if you just use sandpaper.  I found that out.

Title: Re: Anyone have a 2008 S40 Boulvevard?
Post by steely on 01/22/08 at 16:51:30

I actually took a dremel tool (with a sanding disk) to the fin edges on my GS850 after powder coating the head to get that same look.  Nowhere near as even, but unless you get right up on it, it doesn't look too shabby.

It would be different if the fins were flat on the edges.  You can try it with the head installed, but it will be hard to make it good and even...IMO

Right now actually, I'm going to try and clean the black paint and coat it with some high heat engine enamel I found. I think I want it shinier, and easier to clean! The mud really doesn't want to come off the flat black paint, and it rains too much over here.

Being a home builder all my life and working with a belt sander and on metal too it would be very easy.Did you every drive a moto guzzi motorcycle if you haven't then you wouldn't be able to ride it. same difference.

I work a lot with the belt sander to, but on wood (which is not nearly as forgiving as metal I think! It's really very strong, and I can barely hold on to it once it goes. So I'm worried about using it on the bike..... chances are that I will accidentally hit something I didn't mean to!!  :-[

Note: they do make a engine clear coat.......

That's what I was wondering.  I just repainted and baked my engine cases with ceramic high temp. paint, and had that thought, too.  They do have a lot of different colors.

well, since the idea of some ceramic paints and coatings is to hold the heat in I wonder if the paint is enough to effect the cooling of the engine - contemplated going the other way on the '02 as no what I do it runs hotter by as much as 10c than the '95

Depends on the ceramic material composition.....

There are ceramic's that actually transfer heat.    We have a set of Corning fry pans & pots at home that cook nicely.    I work for a computer chip company and the high power stuff is assembled on ceramic material for dissipation (also at a much much higher material cost than the polymer material).

I have a can of engine clear enamel.
I had indeed planned on using that over the ceramic high heat matted black the I painted the engine with.
I'm hoping it will make it easier to clean the engine after a rainy day.
That particular clear coat is only up to 500 degrees however. Do you think that's enough?

Boy, I didn't see this one coming...I thought we hashed all this "heat/paint" thing in another one of the Savage Woman's topics :P

I have an idea...why not just paint a small part of one of your cases to make sure you like it...did you paint your front pulley cover?  That would be easy to undo if you wanted to...just a thought.

Depends on the ceramic material composition.....

Exactly.  I once worked as a toolmaker in a plant that manufactured ceramic insulators. :D

Yes I did paint the front pulley cover. The funny thing is that it doesn't really get all that hot. Not like the fin area. So the enamel should be fine on that part. I'm going to try it, if it peels off I'll just scrape it away.

I just wonder if it will discolor...good luck.

I pretty sure the black can turn gray as the chemicals breakdown....  the clear can go yellow'ish ..... especially if you spill gas on it while it's warm  (experience from my son's Honda SL 70...  :-[ )

That's what I wondered.  If that is sprayed all over the engine and needs to be removed, it would be quite a job.

Too late now!
I did coat it in the clear enamel, and boy does it ever look nice!
I've let the engine idle twice so far. Once for 5 minutes and once for 10. I'll do it a few more times each a bit longer. It should be cured pretty soon. Hopefully dirt will wash off easily now.

So, you took the plunge, in spite of all the skeptics :P

Well, I will admit that's how I've done an awful lot of things.  Sometimes you win, and sometimes you lose, but you always learn something.  So, here's my best wishes.  May you be the first Savage Rider to ever have a clear coated engine.

We'll await your pics.

Still shiny, no bubbling. keep your fingers crossed!
