Title: I resurrected my 88 and she died......
Post by Trump2Thump on 12/18/07 at 08:39:21

i've gotten another Triumph so my Savage is the backup bike... I'm letting a buddy ride it for a few months while he decides if he likes riding and saves up for a bike if he does... I put a brand new sealed Platinum battery and a little gum-out carb cleaner in the tank and she fired right up after about 6 months or so down... I rode it for a couple of days with absolutely no problem than dropped it off at my friend's house and he had no problem for the first day....... until...

he was stopped at a sign and he didn't engage the gear right and she stalled... unfortunately she won't start up now and there is absolutely NO power going to the lights, signals, etc..... I am having my dad, the family wrench, take a look at it this weekend..... i'm about 50 miles away and have given him all the real basics such as kick stand, ignition key and kill switch and whatever else may be an easy fix but i'd appreciate any other no-brainers i may be forgetting..... he checked the battery and she's fully charged......

She went from running fine to completely dead - I have a Clymer's, any thoughts??

Thanks,

Lou

Don't ya just love these indirect issues.  Stall, no lights, won't start...

Obviously you gotta start with the lights.  Check the new battery connection?  Physically, not just the post to post voltage reading...

At 1 year, I'm still a fairly new rider.  And I can remember a few less than stellar starts.  She chuggs and really doesn't like it.  Nearly stalls.  To some degree, I think this may be when the cam chain can be thrown.

I vote fuse.  I just spent 2 evenings trying to figure out what was wrong with my battery.  Same issue as you, no lights, no start.  Put it on a trickle charger, checked all the cables.  Turned out the fuse had a small, hard to detect, break in it that I missed at first glance.  Check them close in the light.  I found it switching the fuses around, causing the lights to come on.

Agree with Greg, No lights, no nothing.....sounds like power isn't getting to where it needs to get.

The sudden jerk of the stall could have loosened up something.  Or, caused a bad wire to short........

If the fuses are blown, you might be able to replace it and nurse the bike home to do a more thorought diagnostic.
