Title: Do you like my new look?
Post by islandwahine on 12/17/07 at 13:35:39

I'm pretty much done with my bike!
A few little things that I want to perfect, but that can wait till later!
I can be pretty sure that no guy will ever take off with it  :P
And before you ask, no those are not decals, but painstakingly cut out designs I printed on the back of contact paper
Here are some pics:

Very nice.  I'm surprised you didn't paint the engine case blue as well.  Couldn't find any paint for it?   ;)

Where did you find the decals.  They look good.

Is the white rose a statement, or just a flower??

Sorry guys, no decals!
I found those designs online, and saved them on the computer.
Then I inserted them into Microsoft word and "unstuck" them so I could twist and resize them.
Then I printed the designs on the back of contact paper, and cut them out.
Sticking a cut out flimsy design on a curved surface is a pain in the neck!!! I got it though, and used two kind of spray paints to fill in the design, silver and metallic sprinkle paint. It was an awful lot of work, and I would do it differently if I had known, but it's done!

It's actually a silver rose, but the white rose movement sounds really cool! Something I would have done.

Yep I did!

Would have been cool to have a partner who was into that kind of stuff, but then again...... I don't think the saying "too may cooks ruin the food" was made for nothing  ;D.

I looove that matt black paint job on the engine case, how did you do it ?

Also, after the few first rides, does that Coke can holder still stay up, or will it hang limp?  ;)

You Da Wahine!

No detail seems to be forgotten.  I did a double-triple take on the headlight assembly, for sure with all the accents on the signals and the mirrors too...

You put a lot of heart into that work and it shows.  Great job!

PS - don't stay away while you're doing these projects.  Next time, tease us with little progress photos from time to time.

Hey I saw a bike just like this! Naw, only kidding. You done good. I keep looking at the pictures and keep finding new stuff. I just realized that you had painted the back of the directionals and the horn even. The tribal design around the rose is excellent. My favorite bit is the studded cupholder though, I don't know why, but it just cracks me up. Now I got to get off my butt and do something to my bike.  :D

I spent about 8 hours cleaning the engine with degreaser, q-tips, tooth brushes, wire brushes, sandpaper etc. to get all the oil and dirt off. Then I covered and taped off the rest of the bike, and used 2000 degree heat paint and sprayed it on.

The cup holder works fine, I put a rubber layer underneath the horse shoe clamp so it wouldn't slide, and clamped on the cup real tight. It doesn't budge at all. I have a Starbucks stainless steel cup that fits in there pretty good.

Next time??
I think I'll think twice about doing this again!! LOL
Had enough for a while. I just hope she runs without any trouble for a few months.
The muffler backfires louder then ever though, this was the reason I started taking the muffler off to begin with. Oh well. At least it looks a lot better with the new silver paint on it. I think the muffler has a hole in it somewhere, but it's on the inside, cause I had a lot of rust flakes fall out of the holes. even after I reinstalled it and revved the engine.

While its might be true that no man would steal your bike since there isn't very far to run on that island of yours, I'm sure many would be tempted to buy it off you. I'm incredibly jealous and would love to do something like that eventually.

Still debating that one!! I'm not exactly a beauty, and I'd rather not have you guys thinking, " hmmmm yeahhh, would have been better not to know what she looks like!"

Savage Wahine,
Here something to add to your Christmas Wish list.

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=92126

The 4 oz tank will easily spray an entire tank.  Since it's a detailing gun, the paint comes out slow, so it's hard to mess up.    But, it takes forever to cover something like the entire tank.

If you need to be "quiet", squeeze the front brake, let out the clutch SLIGHTLY till it starts to catch, and then turn it off (without releasing brake/clutch).  Most times that will stop the backfire when you turn it off.

Don't even tempt me!!
I was thinking about having one of these the whole time I was printing and cutting out the designs with my teeny scissors. I would love to learn how to spray paint like that. Would have been nice to add shading for a 3-D look in the roses. Hmmmm, maybe one of these days!

Guess what!!
I stopped by the Suzuki shop to ask the guys if they could check and make sure that the rear wheel axle bolt was tight enough, which it was(Guess my weight is perfect for standing on the wrench), and I was telling him about the extremely loud backfire I had.
Like you guys, he said the bike was running too lean, and to turn the pilot screw out more. I told him it was as far out as it went.
Turns out that the screw got stuck somehow, and that it wasn't out very far at all. He loosened it up for me, and got it to turn out quite a bit more. No more backfire, and it runs great!!

I hope I don't ruffel any feathers too hard here. If my pic was posted, it would be real easy for me, since I am far from a good looking dude, BUT, Isalnd, regardless of your opinion of how good loooking you are( or not), I would like to see a pic of the gal who has done all this fine work. I've seen pics of several board members, guys & gals alike. These brave people are not all going to be on the covers of magazines, but they post the pics, cuz we are a curious lot & we want to see the folks who are out there doing the cool stuff. And ....does the jacket match the bike????

Yep! Jacket matches bike pretty good.
And yes I've been riding and loving it!
Next project recovering seat, and adding some extra padding.
Got a pile of work lined up however, and need to do some New Years cleaning (get rid of the stuff that has been sitting for years gathering dust). The seat will have to wait a while.
