Title: Exhaust problem
Post by Baldeagle on 12/11/07 at 15:45:41

Several months ago I pulled the header pipe and muffler to replace both crusher seals. I had a leak between the muffler and header pipe.  Now the leak is back and I need a few suggestions on a fix.  The muffler clamp bolt is almost inaccessable unless you loosen the 8mm(?) bolt right above it.  Don't know if I will start an oil leak if I do that.  Have thought about wrapping it with muffler repair tape or try putting another clamp from the auto parts store.  Include any suggestions on loosening those twp philips screw on the heat shield.  I left them on when doing the replacement. ???

Let me know if I need just to take the whole thing off again and redo it.

Ride safe and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

They make a muffler repair paste.  I globbed some on the gasket and retightened it up.

The Muffler to pipe joint can be tough.   Make sure everything is aligned straght.

I hear that in the land of the rat-people, they use beer cans, muffler paste, and those metal zip ties to fix that up. It apparently makes for a really nice seal and costs virtually nothing. Looks like crap but hey, apparently some people are into that.
