Title: shooting flames
Post by rebel12341 on 12/02/07 at 17:44:57

i was told that if you put a bigger pipe on your bike it would make your mix lean but mine will shoot flames when i roll off the gas (i don't like messing with the carb it scares the poo out of me)

We-e-e-e-e-ll, not quite.

You can easily shoot flames but:
- you need a straight-through exhaust pipe (no baffles)
- you need a mixture richer than average (i.e., choke pull on handlebars)
- you need a small spark plug tapped into your exhaust.

Choke on, rev the bike, then at the same time roll off and feed the spark plug...

Flames guaranteed !!!

(BBQ'd a$$ is your own responsibility)

Sorry, misread ...

When I got my 1988 Savage she was on the OEM muffler and the OEM carb settnig, would bang and pop like crazy but yes, she would "light up" the muffler every now and then.

That's because of the "wasted spark" principle, i.e., the spark plug will go off both at combustion TDC and at exhaust TDC. This cuts down emission levels considerably, but may make the bike bang.

When she bangs, she's on fire (no pun intended)
