Title: Finally painted my bike
Post by cFLOW on 11/26/07 at 14:18:54

NOT I thought  of  all my possibilities but came up with nothing. So bare sheetmetal covered with WD-40 to resist Rust is what it will be . But its finished, officially.

Very cool ... good job! A friend of mine did a similar treatment on an old Sportster ... put subtle "swirls" in the bare sheet metal with a rotary wheel of some sort and covered with several coats of clear ... looks awesome (as does your Bike!) 8)
Have any more pics to post?

I like that steel look, but I'd clearcoat that bare metal.

I agree.

gonna be hard to clearcoat with all that wd40 on it. :)

Not really.  Wipe it down with denatured alcohol and a clean rag. That will take off all the oil and leave a clean surface to paint.

As for a clear coat?  I'd look at a satin finish polyurethane.  That will retain the look of the bare metal without adding any unnatural shine.

I think that looks sweet.

Looks c*ck.

As far as paint...just paint no primer allows only mechanical, not chemical, adhesion.  I'd recommend clear primer (uberexpensive...1oo bones for a 1/2 pint?)  But it would be good to put that under that satin clear max talked about.

I'd powdercoat it clear. They blast them with synthetic sand. So it will retain your bare metal look.
Cool.

I like it!! I'd love to see a shot like a 3/4 angle from the front.

Looks like you and me are complete opposites!
You down to the bare necessities, and me with the extra flair!
I like the way your bike looks, rugged and very manly  :P

These are the best pics I have. The bracket for the swingarm mount is a piece of angle steel. http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s53/Cabber_photos/Picture918829.jpg

Thanks that might be an option, what size fender is that, guessing trailer fender?I think I have the struts left over from a cb honda front fender that might work for mounting.

I bought it from a friend so I dont know what the radius of it is but its 6" wide from edge to edge and as you can se it covers only top the edge of the tread. The radius fits a 16" tire perfect but is a little off on the 15"

y'know, the bike looks great, but it horrifies me that you are running it as a soft tail.

Its to comfortable w/ shocks and they look great to me, and I dont have the time to to make it a proper hardtail. So it stays like this
