Title: right crankcase bolts Post by DocNeedles on 11/22/07 at 11:07:26 I am waiting for the guide pins for my Savage and I think when I took the right side crankcase cover off there was only one long bolt installed and all the rest were standard size. I put the one long bolt back into the right place but I don't know where the other long bolt goes. Could someone direct me where to put both of the long bolts? I have the one long bolt on order but I imagine I can put everything back together, with the smaller bolt, install the updated carb and Sportster muffler and take the bike out for a burn, and replace the long bolt when it comes in. I hope I have been learning patience waiting for these parts to come in and working on the bike in a correct and focused way, but I do have to do with my impatience about getting on the road and trying these new improved mods out!!! Yes I will check the cam chain adjuster when I have the casing off. DocNeedles |
Title: Re: right crankcase bolts Post by Savage_Greg on 11/22/07 at 11:10:33 One sort of "Rule of Thumbs" when you are installing the bolts, is that all of them will stick out of the case the same amount before tightening. Doesn't matter where, they will all use the same amount of threads to tighten. So, if you have one that is protrudes more and one that is less, then just swap them around until they are all the same amount. The only thing different is the location of the bolts that have gaskets on them. Those bolts go by the same rule, but they are used where they go through an oil passage. So don't use them in a normal hole. |

The #numbers refer to the coloumn on the LH side where the bolt, washer or seal is mentioned. F.i. 5 ) 01547-06357 BOLT 6X35 Meaning: Item # Partnumber Bolt M6 thread and 35 mm long And when you press the partnumber you get the cost! What more do you want? |
