Title: Seat, saddlebags 2003, 650
Post by Savagegirl on 11/12/07 at 14:12:36

Oh I am sooo excited this website is here! Thank you! Well, I have the 2003, 650 Savage and a proud owner I am. I have searched for the questions on this site to be answered, but I got side tracked with all the other information. Ok, I would love to make a solo seat, remember, I am a lady and I don't want a masculine seat, something COMFORTABLE after 60 minutes, and hot looking! And I would love saddlebags, but living where I do, the dealer always answers we don't carry saddlebags for that bike because of the ignition box underseat. Well, that's how I got here! Ya'll will be more supportive then the dealer I'm sure. Looking forward to a reply...even any recommondations. THANKS

For saddlebags lookup Willie and Max. I don't about a single seat.

I live in LaLaLand so I like my storage to be lockable.  I have had my LeatherLyke saddlebags for three years and they still look as good as new.  Plus one bag will hold two gallons of milk or a 10 pound bag of potatoes or a five liter box of wine.  They were $430 or so, but they have done good.

You don't want to go to big the taillights are in the way and slanted work best.

Go to search and type in "saddle bag brackets".

;D. Thanks so much for the input. The brackets I have don't have instructions and I was wondering do they get screwed in the underside of the silver/metal piece on my fender?

The brackets are fitted to the side bar as shown. I had to remove the bar and drill it to fit a through bolt in one place.
The brackrt and saddlebags were designed for the 650 by a German firm called HELD.

You want to make a seat?  These show one possbility, and mentions others.

Here is how I did it:
Seat mod using AirHawk (http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?board=RubberSideDown;action=display;num=1182255361;start=0#0)

and the follow up:

TheFids brackets may not look like yours.

Many are designed to bolt in up underneath the fender.

Look here to see if your brackets sorta look like the ones in the first picture:
Saddlebag Brackets - How to make your own (http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?board=tech;action=display;num=1162559733)

and here to see how to install them up under the fender:
Installing Saddlebag Brackets (http://suzukisavage.com/cgi-bin/YaBB.pl?board=tech;action=display;num=1114205240)

And there is enough room between the regulator (ignition box? that black thing with the fins under the pillion seat) and the rear bracket for the pillion for saddle bags to fit.  I don't know what your dealer is talking about, especially if he calls that an ignition box!  ::)

One last word of advice.
If your brackets do bolt up under the fender, watch out for tire clearance!!
