Title: Electrical, fuses blow!
Post by 97savage on 11/09/07 at 04:15:19

650 savage, One side of fuse holder blows its fuse, when ignition is turned on. The first time it happened, I replaced it and bike ran for about 10 minutes. the left me stranded. Checked wiring and this seems to be ok! any thoughts.... Thanks 97savage.

Either you have a short somewhere...those can be hard to find,  but certainly not impossible with a good meter...

Or, your first two fuses were just duds?  :-/

Let me offer this advice...

If you have a blown fuse, never replace it until you find out why it blew.  It is a safety device and a warning that another problem exists.

Don't blame the fuse.  Better start checking the wiring a little more closely.

Hint: What is the first thing that goes on when you turn the key?  Start there.

It is, but....

Why would you suspect the relay?  Do your signals start blinking when you turn the key?

Remove the relay and check again. If the fuse doesnot blow again you probably have a SHORT in the blinker circuit. CHeck the bulbs one by one.

Trying to stimulate some trouble shooting here :P

He said, "One side of fuse holder blows its fuse, when ignition is turned on."

The reason that I asked the question is that unless the blinker switch is turned on, there is no power to the blinker relay and the relay won't be the fault.

The headlight, taillight, and running lights are what turn on with the ignition key.
