Title: Shock fitment
Post by barry68v10 on 10/25/07 at 07:08:00

Does anyone know what other shocks will fit on our Savage?  There's some Intruder 1400 shocks on ebay that are 13.5", which seems too long for our Savage.  But, I wonder what other shocks will bolt right up...

Thoughts?

I have the 800 Intruder shocks on mine.  12.5".  Nice fit, nice ride, due to the added swingarm travel, you must trim the front of the belt guard for clearance, top and bottom, (if you don't remove it).
This, with the 2" seat lift gives me a 30" seat height.

So 06 intruders won't fit?

If it's the choppery lookin' Intruder, it probably fits...
Don't go taller than 12" or 12.5" max... you'll start having swingarm trouble... and stress the belt...
The belt needs to be adjusted a bit looser with taller shocks...
...and the belt guard will interfere at over 12"...
I ditched the guard, but it can be trimmed...

I went with Progressive Suspension's 412-4201C 11.5 inches (stock shocks are 10.5"). Ordered them from JC Motors.com. These were listed for the Suzuki Intruder 800. Perfect fit, easy installation. No other mods were necessary. I used the stock hardware, the proper fit bushings come with the shocks. The only possible issues were sidestand (bike lean) and passenger peg clearance with the stock muffler. With new shocks fully extended, passenger pegs clear by 1/2", just enough. The tail light comes up about 2", the seat about 1", and the sidestand about 1/2". I chose to compensate by attaching a 1/2" x 1" bar magnet to the bottom of the stand, just my choice, (also helps with stop light timers!) but not necessary. Good Luck, hope this helps!

P.S. The ride is soooo much smoother!

Will intruders from an 06...12.5 i believe work with a shock muffler?
