Title: Re: Head cover ARRRRGH! Post by Savage_Greg on 10/17/07 at 22:03:15 THAT WAS FUN! I felt like I was right there enjoying the whole thing with you. I knew that we'd get it done. Good job. Isn't it funny how it is so easy to overlook a bolt like that? I did the same thing once, but I forgot the ones in the valve covers. :P |

Title: Re: Head cover ARRRRGH! Post by T-Mack1 on 10/18/07 at 18:37:48 Fun watching....yes..... Dr. Jim, yes, it's silicon'd on, keeps the oil in. And bolts are metric, If I recall correctly, 10mm You will need to torque then back on, so run down to Auto-zone or what ever you have there, with a bolt, and buy the correct socket. One socket isn't all the much. A torque wrench would be advisable too. You may want to check around to see if you could rent one if you don't want to buy on. |

Title: Re: Head cover ARRRRGH! Post by Savage_Greg on 10/19/07 at 07:08:45 I used to use high high temp RTV on the head/headcover but this last time I used a gray gasket maker (for bikes and ATVs) which I got at the auto store. A little lower viscosity or whatever and doesn't start setting up quite as fast. You only want a real thin film on there, gotta remember that you will be mounting the cam bearing journals when you install the headcover. I use a Q-tip to apply that stuff. It is smaller than my finger tip for those narrow little surfaces, and much easier to "clean up".... I also use a dab on that egg shaped o-ring to prevent gravity from guiding it into the wrong position too :P |
