Ignore the model year -- that is because the sound level is at the '86-'87 specification.  They may not legally market it for later years even if it does fit perfectly.  (You can hunt for a cheaper price -- I got mine for under $100)

If you want a Lo-Buck approach, yielding good sound & increased flow/performance, a $20.00 HD takeoff muffler( no crossover connections) will do ya right. If you want a good sounding, tuneable zaust pipe, spend the $$ & get a Supertrapp. IF you do that, order the 6 pack add on disks when ya buy it & saVE yourself the agravation & added freight. I am running one with 14 disks. No one tells me its too loud, no hassles from cops,Excellent power boost.

Same make/model, but not mine.  I had a $10 fishtail muffler off eBay that was just a baffle -- I liked it but it (1) set off car alarms and (2) set off the wife.  The MAC doesn't not trigger car alarms unless I really try, and the wife accepts it.  It is DOT/EPA legal for an '87 Savage -- later years had tighter sound requirements, which doesn't matter except for sales as it is the States, not the Feds, who determine what you can have on your bike after it has been sold.

You can get a harley dyna muff or sportster muff from ebay for about 50.00 I bought one and installed myself in about 20 minutes. I am female, so you should be able to do it in 10....Its simple, its cheap, has an immediate result on power.

Southerngirl        Did you have to take off your head pipe?

unless it's an easy slip fit, you'll want to take it off to avoid damaging the header.
