A few weeks ago the spring that connects my rear brake pedal to the brake light broke. The local Suzuki dealer got me one and this evening the new one broke.

I don't think I'm pushing too hard on the control. Guess I'll go to Home Depot and get a stronger spring.

Talking about springs, how about that one on the brake pedal itself? You know the one wrapped around the post that has the engine bolt running though it?
Maybe that thing is wacked out thereby breaking the little spring to the brake light?
I know that my tension spring down there is not doing anything because whoever took the bike apart last time didn't put that thing back the way it should have gone.

IW, Max thinks all the more reason to suspect the bolts/nuts that hold the brake pedal assembly on may not be tightened correctly and part of your vibration cause. If the previous person who worked on it, didn't get the spring on correct, maybe they didn't tighten the bolts correctly either.

Forrest, I dont have any idea what those cost,but shouldnt Suzuki do something?If it broke that quickly. :-/

There isn't anything to putting the spring on; nothing to loosen or adjust. Sure they'll replace the spring no worries but it's a minor hassle.

Have you fiddled with the switch the spring actuates? maybe its stuck.. Creating a MAX pull on the spring?

I'll take a look. The cable on that end slides fine. Maybe it is getting caught at some point. Just weird, and not the kind of weird I like.

Make sure that the switch position isn't adjusted too tightly on the spring. The spring only needs to stretch enough to turn on the lights. It shouldn't pull it much beyond the switch travel...

...and of course, that all depends on how much brake pedal travel you have. If you ever change shoes or anything related to the brake pedal travel you should check the switch too.

And if the switch IS stuck, you can get a replacement cheaper from the local indie shop than from the dealer. As I recall, I sold them for $3.95-9.95 depending on if they were black plastic, chromed or cadmium plated metal.

You can also get th old HD bar style brake light switch. It has a lever that sits under the brake pedal arm. When the arm moves, the lever moves. No plastic button to break or get lodged sideways in the casing.

There are 2 options:
1. the brake light switch is adjusted wrong
2. the brake pedal is adjusted wrong
Any way- this is not a common problem and You should never have it.

I'll need to look at that. Just wierd it went 9 months ok, then broke twice in the last couple of months; and no ajustments have been made.
