Title: Stupid question.....
Post by lostmcgoon on 10/01/07 at 13:32:10

I have been looking through my manual and searching around the old posts, but what is the Dia. on the stock savage forks? I am looking for some clip ons down the road, and want to get an idea of whats out there in the right size.

Well, the title will still be a savage, and the motor, and a few parts of the frame, but the actual bike will be more of old school board track style like my avatar......

My eyes aren't quite good enough to make out the whole bike in the avatar :P

Anyway, they are 38 MM...

...but it makes my back hurt to think about it :)

that picture is one I found on one of my old messageboards a few years back. it has pretty much been haunting me since. I recently finished my chopper build, and picked up a savage from one of my brothers really cheap so the next project begins... it wont be exactly like the one in the picture, but heavily inspired by it.

either way if I dont buld it, I will never get that image out of my dreams.

As for being a young whippersnapper.... I am not sure if 34 qualifies for whippersnapperdom, but I have always had an odd taste in my bikes, I dont believe in windshields, ride iron butt rides on a jockey shifting bobber with very little suspension and so forth. I just figure ride hard or dont bother.... and some days when my horrible arthritise acts up (both feet horribly bad, cant walk some days) of course that is the after effects of my younger days.....

Ok maybe in better shape than me.How's that? ;DWhen I worked at a bike shop I dreaded test riding crotchrockets, being bent over like that.I,m a little big for that position.Let's just say the tank takes up my belly space. ;D

I sometimes have that issue lol I am 6ft 4 and 280lbs.... I have a gut, just gonna have to build the frame right with belly room

Found it on a Japanese site, swiped the pix.  AFAICT is it the standard version of our Thumper, offered only in Japan and only for a very short time.

Wouldn't you love to have one?  400cc is all I really need, but I'ld take it with a performance modded 650  8)

Drummies F & R?  Forget that noise.

What's wrong with drum brakes?  At least you'll get rid of that huge ugly hydraulic thing on the handlebar.  If you are building a retro cafe racer with clip-ons you really don't want a lot of clutter on the bars.

Wouldn't happen to have any old pictures of those bikes would you?

I dont know how to put pictures in.  Just type it in they will come up. THey only made them for about 2 years .  I just gave one away to a kid here in town .35000 miles on it. they where twins a copy of the triump. At the time suzuki was going to buy out triump. they had real good suspenion 4 1/2 in back single shock The most we drove in one day was 500 miles I gear then high would get about 65 miles to gallon. they set for 20 years after my wife died and I had other bikes

Ah... I Googled the GR-650 Tempter, and once I did I remembered them. Yes... A twin like the Triumph or Yamaha XS650. Kawasaki made a few vertical twin Triumph knock-offs too.
