Title: Something got boogered.
Post by YonuhAdisi on 09/25/07 at 20:57:34

Okay, ya'll know I just finished rebuilding the FireLizard's engine. Well, I rode it to work today, and rode it home with no problems, but as soon as I got into my drive way, put it in neutral, and suddenly, neutral light goes out, I put down the kickstand and the motor dies. I know it is supposed to die when you put down the stand while in gear, but not in neutral. And now, I can't even get the starter to kick over, I hear a click, (only with kickstand up, and still in neutral) but nothing. I have plenty of juice in the battery.

Most likely the wire from the "N" sensor /switch/ got disconnected. The connector is under the gas tank and if i remember correct it is blue.

Would that keep the starter from engaging even with the stand up and clutch pulled in?

Title: Re: Something got boogered.
Post by slavy on 09/25/07 at 21:09:03

It should not affect the starter.

Apparently something is though. Well, I'll have to take a look at it when I get time, which won't be until next Wednesday.

But any other suggestions of what it could be?

Oh, I just remembered something else. Earlier at work I moved the bike closer to the doors of where I come out and when I started the bike it first acted like the battery was dead, but it did fire up and when I fired it up to leave from work it started normal.

I would bypass every safety imterlock on it.

check to see if the bolt under the kickstand is loose. if it is, the bike wont start. it does nothing. Ive had the same thing happen to mine  exactly and i found it to be the problem. do you have lights?

I've had trouble with that big connector under the tank also. Make sure it is tight. Check you battery ground and engine ground. The engine ground runs down by the oil sight glass and can come loose. Luck

Yes, all my lights work, and a good strong sound from the horn.

Sunday evening I'm gonna try all of ya'lls suggestions and try to chase down this gremlin.

I put a switch from a dead dvd player, tiny, no current capacity, microswitch, on the decomp solenoid controller & went to the hot wire under the seat. I can crank mine over with the switch off if I want to, I got tired of the "No Start" crap. It hasnt made me use it in a long time, but its there if I need it.

I believe I found the electrical problem. The wire coming out of the right side engine cover that goes to the neutral interlock switch is broke. Now I just need to get out there and take care of it.

Title: Re: Something got boogered.
Post by YonuhAdisi on 10/04/07 at 13:18:16

Okay, the wire wasn't broke after all, but it was bare and I believe was grounding against the block. I took a good look at it and found it was still in very good condition, so what I did was wrapped it to keep it from grounding against something.

Since I took the cover off, I have to wait for some more oil to test fire it.

As a matter of fact Anne McCaffrey is one of my favorite authors and I belong to annemccaffreyfans.org

So I guess that would be a yes.  ;D ;D

Me too, I'm pretty sure I've read all her books.
How do you like Christopher Paolini's Eragon and Eldest?

Can someone  help me figure out what's what  :)

Just wondered, but then again, maybe I should have left this alone!

I haven't read any of Chistopher Paolini's work. I haven't even watched the movie Eragon. Though I have been wanting to.

I named my bike the FireLizard. A FireLizard is a creature that very closely resembles a dragon except it is only about as long as your forearm. These creatures are a creation of Anne McCaffrey who wrote the Dragon Riders of Pern series which I believe now has close to twenty books in it.

My wife has every one of the dragon rider series.  And the ship series and the Acrona series etc etc etc....

I think I've read a total of 2....

My sister is a huge McCaffrey fan- they were trading emails for a while or something. I dunno. Sounded kinda stalkerish to me...

Yeah, I have the ship series, most of the dragon rider series, all of the tower and hive series, and most of the acorna series.

I talked with Anne McCaffrey a couple of times on line in her Kitchen Table chatroom. Very nice lady, too bad her son Todd is screwing up the dragon rider series with his bullcrap.

I think the confusion came when someone ,I thought, said her books were po  rn.
Are they Po  rn?

I'm trying to spell this so it will go through. :)
Maybe I just read that wrong, since I know nothing of  her books!
Or maybe they were joking....dont know.

Dr. Jim was just messing around. teasing Skrapiron is all. The Dragonriders of Pern series is Sci-fi/Fantasy.

:o Wow, talk about a Thread (pun intended ;)) taking a left turn! LOL!! Read McCaffrey's original Dragonrider/Pern books 25-30 years ago ... still have 'em too ... especially liked Dragons Dawn ;D
With the current level of computer animation looking almost real-life, I'd bet that those books would make great movies!

Title: Re: Something got boogered.

Yeah, they would make a great live action movie, especially with today's CGI animation. (Is anyone interested in the new Beowulf CGI movie comming out other than me?)

The problem is, there are too many books, too many stories, too many charecters.  To make it into a 2 to 3 hour movie, alot of stuff from the books would have to be left out and that would really piss off the die-hards..

Oh well.... So, How's FireLizard been running?

YES! I've been looking forward to it since I was a sophomore in high school (1988-89? I can't remember...) They have a red band trailer on the official site that is amazing- way better than what's playing on TV right now. Of course, it'll probably be edited down to a kid-friendly PG-13  >:( But, I've heard Zemekis would more than likely release an unrated DVD if the studio has their way with the theatrical release. Full frontal nude CGI Angelina Jolie? I'm in... And Crispin Glover voicing Grendel? Sweet.

Okay, I'm done hijacking the thread for the moment...

Actually there is a movie deal in the works for the Dragon Riders series. But then it has been in the works for a few years now. It was put on hiatus for a while because McCaffrey got ticked off at the screenwriters trying to change too much of the story. Like for instance, having the Kylara character a hero instead of the selfish pregnant dog she is in the books.

FireLizard's been running pretty good so far. I need to readjust the valves though, I have them too loose. The problem is the smallest feeler gauge I have is a .006 and I need between a .003 to .005.

Sears has the answer. They aren't too pricey. I dunno about you folks, but I pull the blades out of the holder & use them that way. That whole stack of blades & the loop handle feels too clunky in my hand.

I use the Motion Pro tappet feeler gauges (http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/tools/tappet_feeler_gauges/).
