Title: Side mount filter installed
Post by Holodeck on 09/01/07 at 16:00:51

Here is what I came up with.

I used an 1 1/2 " black PVC P trap, this is the kind used for rough plumbing, not the white stuff under your sink. The flange and the threaded end are both about 2 1/4"

I cut the rubber from the old air filter and sawed off the threaded end of the PVA, it was a near perfect fit, tight, but it worked fine.
Here is a link to a picture.

Man that looks bad a$$  !!!

Is it just for looks mounting it that way or does it offer any other benefits ?

I did some carb mods at the same time I did the filter, so I don't know about  making it any faster ( it's already way faster than I should be trusted with ).

I've seen this done on other bikes and just liked the look. Cheap too, total cost was $5.50

Looks real nice, I like it a lot.

Tell us what it does in the rain though, I was nervous about a good rain dousing my cone and clogging it up or letting water in, and it's still behind the carb body, but I haven't had any trouble with it...

The picture dosn't show it but the way it came out, most of the cone is behind the engine. At speed I think the rain would  airfoil on by.

The cone shape should collect the water on the surface but the wind should shear it off before sucking it through.  At least that's what the cone shape filter people say of the ones for HD's.  And they're stuck out in the elements.
