Hi all,had trouble for a long time now,battery[new and fully charged]goes flat after a week of commuting,3 miles each way.I left it in my garage for a week and battery drained again,Ive checked all wireing for shorts but found nothing,battery revs at 13.5 so charging seems alright any way to check for drainage useing a multimeter/Many thanks,Ian,

Get a VOM & connect it between the negative battery terminal & the lead itself, which means, the lead is disconnected, read current flow, switch off. Just to see if something is draining the batery with the switch off. Look the bike over for any lights still on when the key is in your pocket. NOt leaving the thing on accessory?

WHOaa Whoaa,, lemme get this straight,, you start the bike, ride 3 miles, start the bike, ride 3 miles & the battery wont hang with that>>>??? Maybe the charge system cant recharge the battery in 3 miles?? The answer, if thats what it is, is simple, ride around! Have some fun,, geee, sorry to break it to ya, but you gonna have to ride that thing some more,, aint that a shame??

battery age,electrolyte level,(specific gravity = 1.28 @ 68F)have you put battery on trickle charger...

3 miles isn't enough to keep anything charged.

Heard this before only it was a diamond dealer driving a mercedes 5 minutes to the shop and back.

maybe if you kept it in 1st gear all the way. ;D

either take the long way to work or get yourself a tricle charger.

3 miles, figure an avg spped of 35 mph, that only just over 5 minute commute.

The Starter motor is the biggest single energy drain on the battery, next is the headlight, then the brake light. Since the Headlight is on always (and should be when you're on the road), and since your commute is so short you probably use the brake more than once (stop light & stop signs). That's why it takes a little longer than 5 minutes to chagre the battery.

Thanks for all your help guys,Im thinking the journey isnt long enough to keep the battery charged ,I will get a trickle charger and see how that goes,will let you know how that works out,thanks again,Ian

I bet one of the stator leads is dead.
90% sure without seeing the bike You have a stator issue.
