I'm looking for ideas for a bobber style rear fender and would like some pics and info on what you have done. Chopped, bobbed original fenders or aftermarket stuff, I just need ideas ! Also if you have lowered the rear fender a little info on doing that would be cool too.

This is what I did to the rear fender: sold the stock fender. Bought a trailer fender at Northern Equip. for 14 bucks, chopped it a bit, flattened it out a touch, drilled some holes, and mounted it right to the swingarm. Rides fantastic!

I believe it's 8 inches wide. I cut about six inches off one end and flattened it out a bit (had to get creative with that as I don't have access to an hydraulic press ;D ) I think it was a 14" trailer fender I picked up. It's a pretty heavy gauge stainless steel...

here's my bobber. i call it a strutless fender.

it's pretty straight forward on the brackets.

jkhulon73 ... is that a Darkside (i.e. car) tire you have on the arse of your Savage?

Not yet ;D It's a regular ol' Cheng Shin. I'm just good with the camera- you oughta see some of my self-portraits. (I'll just leave that one hanging out there...) Anyway, I would love to put a VW tire back there...

Sluggo, what was that rear fender off again? I thought you said once it was a GN 400.

I like the stock fender. Unfortunately they stuck the license plate mount a light down below the fender.
I got rid of the stock license plate assembly and mounted the license plate to a new bracket fastened to the axel. This gives a pretty good retro looking back end, but not a agressive as sawing a foot off the fender.

By the way, where do you put the electrical assemblys that were fastened to the top of the stock fender?

yes they are. many of the bikes of the time used a half chrome fender. i've found quite a few to work with.

i'm putting together fender and brackets for a guy here, i haven't worked out pricing yet.

i've found some chrome fenders online that may well work, and pretty darn reasonable at that. just need to fab the mounting hardware and instructions. i'll keep ya posted. if there's a demand, i'm sure i can deal with the supply side.
