Title: cycle world

has anyone here ever tried posting about the cam chain issue @ cycle world. surely they could find out about the problem. also has there ever been a service bulletin notice put out from suzuki about this. it seems that motorcycle manufacturers put alot of dyno time on there engines, load tests, severe duty tests, etc. and i cannot see how they would not know about this issue.

Verslagen is collecting data to try to show a "correctable issue" exists so we can hire us a lawyer for a group legal action.

Beyond that, we are already group buying special construction cam chains, spec'ing out the oils with the needed additive packages for tappet and longer cam chain life and building systems to extend the overall usable life of the cam chain and tensioner design as provided by Suzuki.   We are doing all we can do on a practical basis.

Bitching to a bike magazine isn't going to accomplish very much.  You can try though.

Got to be careful about how you go about it though.  It may give the Savage a bad name if not handled well.    We trust you have the necessary public relations and legal background to start the conversation off in a beneficial fashion, right?

Good luck .....

I would put the group wisdom  concerning the Savage found right here above any moto-journalist's knowledge of the bike.

About the only advantage they would have over us would be if they could get "insider" information from the factory.  That's usually doubtful, however.

While the plunger extention is an issue of concern, it is a condition that should be discovered during the prescribed maitenance interval for the the retorquing of the head bolts, every 5k miles.  The fact that many of us neglect this procedure negates their responsibility.

But I love to get a hold of the design data for the bike.

I have just nearly 20,000 miles on it. Head has never been retorqued. Do you guys, who actually DO this retorquing thing, actually feel the bolts move?

Ver,

That particular procedure does not call for removal of the clutch cover.

In fact, inspection of the cam chain adjuster is not called out at all in the FSM's "PERIODIC MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE."
