Title: Cam Chain
Post by forrest on 08/04/07 at 17:21:19

I looked thru all the posts on the cam chain but didn't see when it should be looked at.  Probably another case of not reading all of the words.
Mine 07 was purchased on Oct of 06 and I just turned 3k.  When should I suck it up and open this thing?

you must keep your ears pealed for ticking sounds coming out of the clutch side cover.  A few have worn out at 10k miles, and most don't go past 20k.  I bought my bike at 16k and it made it untill 22k.  If I had openned it up before the damage was done, I could have saved myself the expense of replacing all of the parts.  When finally my hair stood up on end (very uncomfortable in a ff helmet) I knew it was time.  Shown below is my adjuster at 22k.  And I just heard some odd noises, no loss in performance, no hiccups, just happy times.  And it was out 22mm, not much longer and I would need some major repairs.
