Title: How many miles you got? Post by serenity3743 on 07/31/07 at 13:29:38 Hey. I'm fairly new. I would like to hear from riders about how many miles they have put on their thumpers. I have ridden mine over 51,000 with routine maintenance, although now it's down for a rebuild. How do others compare with that?..........Guy |

I'm changing the cam chain for the first time, as I'm doing a top end overhaul. Thanks for the replies.........Guy |

Cam chain was in good shape but replaced it as a precaution. Piston problem looks to have been cylinder origianlly at tight side of tolerance fm Factory and possibly a maintanence (oil chg) issue. PO is a Honda Tech who got the bike for free from his grandpa or uncle or something. They had let the cam chain go. PO replaced "everthing that was even near the d@mn cam chain." He's a dealership tech, of course he just replaced everything ;D I think he changed the cam chain at around 16-17k. Had the bike parked in his living room, cleaned the parts in the sink. Motor on the coffee table while the chain was going into it. Lost a girlfriend over the deal. He says it was worth it. |

Title: Re: How many miles you got? Post by steely on 08/07/07 at 18:10:45 I bought my '99 Savage with 17.5K on the clock a few months ago. Three weeks after I bought it, the cam chain took a dump on me. It took me three weeks to get it back together, and since then I have put 2k miles on it. |

I love it :). It only had 1or 2 miles on it when I got it. I followed the break in just like the manual said. |
