Does anyone know where i can get my rotor drilled.  and how much it should run me?

Do a search under seller: denisesb  on ebay.

I know they used to offer that service, at least you can ask them. FYI

The engineering lab manager at work is a nascar owner.  He says that they are not drilling anymore.  Instead they are machining a shallow groove.

I'm thinking of doing that to my rotor.  Take a ball end mill and put a groove in the rotor in a like angle of the drilled rotors.   ;D

Here's the one I used - it is higher friction low carb steel - but can flash rust fairly quick around the beach front - of course most things do

I think that's mostly the salt air there.  Here in the Dallas area I'm not getting that rusting very quickly... at least not yet.

well no luck finding the service on ebay, any other suggestions. Do you think a local machine shop could handle the job? I dunno

OK, so I'm stupid, but I'll ask anyway. What does the holes do on the rotor and how does it effect your braking ?

Reelthing says he gets a buzz from his.

does make a cool buzz - spose t keep the brake cooler as well - they get hot they fad -

I believe they're also suppose to help remove brake dust on an ongoing basis.

Also allows venting of the gases that form between the surfaces of the pad and rotor. These are from the support matrix in the pads and when the pads are heated during braking, it vaporizes. Venting via slots or holes in a drilled rotor allows more consistent contact between the pad and rotor with less compressive force and allows more cooling which prevents fade.

Translation: Better braking forces.

I like mine a lot. Just be sure you deburr the holes before installing it.

where do you find a drilled rotor or where do you get a rotor drilled?

Look around for the EBC MD3017LS rotor.  I've seen it at Dennis Kirk (http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp?skuId=195223&store=Main&catId=4&productId=p194765&leafCatId=&mmyId=1757).  I've also seen it at www.cyclebrakes.com in their EBC Catalog (http://www.cyclebrakes.com/EBC-2007usamc.pdf) on page 24.  I think I bought mine at Motorcycle Pro Shop (http://www.motorcycleproshop.com/detail.asp?product_id=MD3017LS) but I don't recall for sure.

Just bought a new fancy brake rotor

http://www.ls650.eu/forum/index.php?topic=4305.90

Scroll down 5 items and press on the small picture

This rotor is made in Finland and I aquired it via the German forum for, and this is NO joke, 40 Euros including shipping from Germany.

If your interested, contact Peter the blacksmitsh, somewere on this forum, I believe he posted recently on the topic "larger tank".

Hmm...I've got access to a drill press and some Ti bits, don't see any reason I can't do my own.  Thoughts?

I don't see why you couldn't drill it yourself.

You could easily place 2 holes directly opposite each on the disk the same distance from the center to keep the disk balanced.

I think 3 or 4 pairs of holes would do what I want to do with them.  Which is keep the pad clean.

I`ve drilled some before..... on my old Yam, and it had nice stainless discs. It`s not a big deal and it really helps define the art of stopping. It doesn`t matter which direction you go as long as the swept area is covered, meaning the area of the brake pad is all gonna hit some hole.

Ugh, you want the holes to overlap patternwise, so you don`t have any area on the disc that will streak. Sort of overlapping circles maybe 1/3 overlap or less, like you know how pool balls rack? But spead way out, of course.  You don`t need a lot of holes, and you shouldn`t bevel them very much at all, just break the edges, a minor kiss is good.

I use cobalt bits as the Ti ones are just plated and it`ll come off. Carbide is better but way more costly. Use PLENTY of  coolant and I used 3/8 bits but you can use anything over a 1/4 is cool. Best to clamp the disc down while you are at it to avoid accidents and stuck bits. I just layed out a pattern with dividers  right on the wheel. You could do it on paper, glue it and punch. A drill press is good-but use what you have. You may have to resharpen the bits as you go along.

Oh yea, I think Suzi`s disc is Cad plated or something-you don`t want to breathe that stuff so keep it real cool, and or wear a mask or get down wind.

Sounds harder to do than it is, more time consuming than tricky.....but really, I think this Suzi`s front disc is pretty good at stopping as is, so I ain`t gonna bother.
