Title: Exhaust removal
Post by Baldeagle on 07/28/07 at 16:56:08

I need some short instructions on removing the exhaust system on my 05 S40, like what to unbolt first and in what order.  I could start out cold but am sure one of you more learned fellows can help. I will be removing everything from the heads back.
Also you might include a fast and simple way to drain the tank........Thanks

About the exhaust-
1.There are 2 nuts /12mm/ with washers,  that hold the muffler to the exhaust bracket. You will have to look under the exhaust. These are the first to go.
2. Take off the bolts that hold the header to the head /12mm socket or wrench//
3.take off the 2 nuts/17mm/, that hold the heat shield and the foot brake. You might have to use 14mm wrench to hold the bolts from the left side from spinning.
4. pull the exhaust like an assy.
About the gas tank- connect a long piece of hose to the petcock and turn it in PRI. before You start messind with the exhaust. Untill You are done with the exhaust , the gas will be in the gas can.

Maybe I am missin something here, but I am not seeing the "remove the nuts from the rear support" Where the muffler attaches to the support back by the rear wheel. I think its 14 mm, niy sure. Dont loose the little steel barrels that slip into the bushings.

Slavy's first step was talking about those particular bolts Justin. I had to read it twice to catch it also.
