Title: Rebuilt carb; Now I have extra parts
Post by toddlamp8 on 07/17/07 at 21:39:53

I was taking apart and dipping my carb when I saw a small brass spring and washer on the ground.  I hadn't been working on anything else in my garage and I knew they are part of the carb but I don't know where.  I need a little help please, maybe a diagram?

small is a relative kinda word. Was th spring small like, fine wire coils or small, short & small. If it was a small coiled spring, did you have the pilot needle out? I bet theres a spring behind it. Washer? Did you pull the main jet?

Everything that I could unscrew was taken out.  The spring makes sense.  I remember there were springs there behind the pilot in my other bikes.

Which is the main jet?

If ya dropped the bowl off the carb & reached to the bottom of the carb body without the bowl, the brass colored hootus with the hole in it is the jet. It has a washer, brass,

Smaller than a ballpoint pen spring?
It goes on the needle jet.  Then the washer.  then the needle, e-ring, spacer(usually ground to 2/3's or replaced by #4 washer), then the needle jet plate.  Look in the tech section for a diagram.

Shorter than a ballpoint pen but about twice the diameter.  I never took the needle jet out.

Any idea where I can get a replacement fuel valve needle where it doesn't cost $36 plus shipping?

I went to a vintage bike repair shop and got one for $6.00.  Try callin' around local shops and take your old one with you cause there are many variations.
