Title: Rear fender removal Post by theikeman on 07/09/07 at 15:06:12 I need to remove the rear fender to get to some otherwise unreachable areas. Can anyone tell me how? I misplaced my service manual, it's somewhere in a box in the garage ... I did do a search on here, no luck. Thanks in advance Ike |
Title: Re: Rear fender removal Post by Oldfeller2 on 07/09/07 at 16:38:06 Take the seat and the pillion off and unbolt all the electrics from the fender. Take the tire off and take it completely out of the wheel well. Remove the 4 bolts from inside the wheel well in addition to taking off everything that attaches to the fender itself. Lots & lots of work to remove the fender -- just about a total teardown of the back side of the bike. Oldfeller |

Title: Re: Rear fender removal Post by tuxedo on 07/09/07 at 18:59:24 if you have a low profile 12mm ratchet or a lotta patience with a box-end wrench, you can do it without taking off the wheel and tire. |

I may chop the fender or replace it altogether, depends on how much is involved. Just want to do something different to this one Thanks to all of you Ike |
Title: Re: Rear fender removal Post by tuxedo on 07/09/07 at 20:33:33 IIRC, to remove my rear fender I just propped the sidestand up on a brick and used a big floor jack to take some weight off the rear tire and make space for my skinny arm to slide in with a wrench. Took about 20 minutes after jacking it up, but I didn't have to remove a belt and wheel and rear brake and....you get the point. Once you make that wheel well a bit bigger, you sorta figure out how to get a hand in there. Also, I used a u-joint and about 14 inches of extensions to loosen the bottom bolts, I believe. Wish I had taken pix of how I did it, but I was busy sweating and drinking beer. |
