Title: Making custom cables Post by FollyRob on 07/03/07 at 20:10:06 In preparation of putting on my new ape hanger bars I went ahead and PM'd LANCER and asked for a set of longer brake, clutch, and throttle cables. He told me that they would be roughly $150. Not a bad price at all but I got to thinking... How hard could it really be to make my own cables? Even if I spent a total of $200 on tools and enough materials to screw it up a couple of times it would be worth it to me to have the experience and knowledge. How would I go about doing this? Where would I get the cable ends? What tools would I need? Are there any good DIY sites on the web for this? (I looked but haven't found much.) Where would be a good place to buy all the materials? Any kind of info or random knowledge would be great! |
Title: Re: Making custom cables Post by FollyRob on 07/03/07 at 20:33:40 As an update I found this site explaining how it is done http://www.dansmc.com/cables.htm And this site with the parts necessary http://www.flandersco.com/FlanCableSearch.html I think I can get everything I need from Flanders. Not terribly expensive either. Any suggestions on which ends to use or which diameter cable? Post some FlandersCO part numbers and we can have a little discussion about what would work best. |
