Title: API SE/SF vs SJ
Post by Strafford_Guy on 07/03/07 at 07:54:33

Greetings. Someone picked me up a gallon of oil, Pro Honda GN4 for my 96 savage. Question is the manual calls for API SE/SF. The oil I have is rated 10-40 API SJ. Can I, should I use this in the Savage. I wanted to do an oil change (I have the correct filter) but dont want to trash the engine. Thanks I will wait for the replies.  ;D

Engine oils that meet the API Service Category SJ designation may be used where API Service Category SH and earlier Categories have been recommended.

Paladin, Thanks for the response. That link should be posted somewhere for prosperity. Should avoid the question I just asked. Thanks again. Looks like I should be good to go. I picked up the bike on fathers day and it appears to be in great shape (other then that d@m belt sqeak, which will also be fixed thanks to the information in the forum). Just figured I would change the oil, oil filter and the air filter and work from there.
Thanks again.
