Title: Correct tire size please.....
Post by Slug_Ascot on 07/03/07 at 06:49:37

As we just got home with the '96 yesterday and no owners manual.  Could someone please give me the proper tire size for front and rear tires, as listed in the owners manual.
I am also open to recommendations on the best tire for the Savage.  I did catch one post about Metzler 880's being a good choice.
Thanks,
Slug

same for all years.  metzlers rock.

Motorcycle tire manufacturers will tell you which of their tires they recommend for your motorcycle -- Dunlop suggests their D404, which I have on front and had on rear.

As always, "BEST" is a relative term -- what is best for one set of requirements will not be best for another.

The Metzlers are, as far as I can tell, the best performing tire -- but they are also quite expensive.  Metzler does not make automobile tires -- they are motorcycle specialists and one would expect the best performance from a specialist and expect to pay for it.

The best looking tires, IMO, are the Maxxis White Walls --  "No, no, no! You don't know what you want! Luigi know what you want. Blackwall tires, they blend into the pavement, but these white wall tires, they say look at me, here I am, love me."

white walls are PIMP!

but I think wide wws look silly on a bike with small fenders.  narrow white walls look cool on bieks w/ smaller fenders.

those are metzler ME 880 WWWs on my V*.  can be a pain to clean, but doable.

Just a quick heads up if you go with anything other than "Suzuki says" tire size.
I.E. Dunlop does not make a 404 in the 140/80-15 size, so  they recommend 140/90-15 (a little bit taller).
Read this and be warned:

Stock front is 100/90-19 ... the wheel will accept a 90/90-19 which improves handling somewhat.

Guess he didn't see your linky 1st time around vroom.

Slug, when you see a something in blue it usually means it's a link to something else.  (My blue is not).

In vroom's orignal reply, the "specs" is a link to the specifications, including the tires.

Thanks folks,
That clears it up.  By the way, youzguyz, I know what a link is and how to use it, but the link you put in didn't work for me when I clicked on it a couple of times.
Now I know that the tires on it were the correct size, and probably the original back tire, since it's so bald and the bike has just shy of 8K.  Front probably not as there's plenty of tread but bad weather checking do to sitting under inflated.
Thanks again all,
Slug ;D

Slug,
Didn't mean to imply you didn't know how to use a link.
Not everyone knows that a word can have an embedded link, like vroom's post did.
Vroom's link goes to a page that has the tire specs.. then you asked for the specs again, which made me believe you missed his link.
That's all

I've got to agree with Paladin, wide white walls don't look silly on a bike with small fenders, they make the whole bike look silly.  LOL

okay, that's a good counter example.  Imagine them wide whitewalls on a stock vstar custom, though.  blech!

besides, there's no front fender, and a cut back fender...
