after:

i put on a set of "mini" apes from a harley wide glide, i think the rise was 10.5"...stock cables fit (barely), just had to re-route them some

the best thing is, CHEAP MOD!!! :D, the handlebars from jireh's were only $36 shipped!...i just re-used my grips

its now comfortable as can be ;D, makes the bike feel alot bigger for some reason :)

I have drag bars on my 07 S40 and they are pretty comfortable but the APES just look so cool. But I have to find some small risers off a Savage as well as buy the bars. Where did u get the bars ? Were they expensive ?

Hey I checked that site but can't find them in fact I can't see any bars for $36. Without sounding stupid which section are they in or what do I search ? Or if you have the direct link to the bars that would be cool. Thanx

in the upper left, click on search by part number, type in 50-221, then click search ;)

part # is 50-221 for $26.95...total for me with shipping was $36 :)

wow........this might be my first mod.

I have this $29 set of 36" wide drag bars on mine and I don't see changing them.  I like 'em too much.

Be sure you understand that the stock bars have weights inside them and the stock ends are simply plastic caps.  I filled  my drag bars with BBs and epoxied them in at the ends to reduce vibration.  I also have Kuryakyn grips on them.

You all know the cheap drag bar I had on mine, now I have a set of 12" apes and would not trade them for the world. I can now ride forever/until I need gas with no back pain.

yep, the drags look cool as well, but basically suck for comfort.

Post by Savage_Rob on 06/22/07 at 13:01:37

That's odd.  I find mine very comfortable.

you've got a bit of rise & pullback in there, right?  The drags I was running was a 32" long piece of pipe.  I'm gonna throw some V* handlebars aon Voomette's savage.  then we'll try some apes if she wants.

Yeah, mine are 36" wide with pullback on both the bars and on the risers.  I see what you mean.  If the risers and bars were straight I'd be leaning over the tank.

I can't find a search anywhere on the site  :-/
At least I did find the free catalog link and sent for one( good library reading  ;)) That has got to be the least thought out site I had ever had the pleasure of looking at. The apes do look great though.

Do you need to use weights in the apes ? If so what do you use ?   :-/

I didn't have any weights in mine but if you did need something there are many available options. Everything from the "Bar snake" to a roll of pennies. Some have even filled the bars with BBs.

you dont have to have weights in the bars....i cant figure out why in the world you'd even need them? ???

Handlebar weights can reduce vibration.

It says that the bar is knurled.  Does the knurling show from under the riser?

I just ordered a pair of these bars and the shape is good but the chrome on mine was peeling off like it was foil. I am in the process of returning these. Maybe I just got a bad pair ?????  :(
