Title: Whats the correct Battery.? UPDATE 6/27
Post by poof on 06/21/07 at 15:12:28

;D

Hello All
first post..
I have used the Search and tech info threads
didnt find the one simple thing I need to start
I want parts Number so I can walk into Wally-world and cross referance if needed.....and buy a battery
for a Savage that I have had in storage for 15 years. last rode 6 years ago , for 10 miles, then removed the battery and stored the bike again..( I have lost the batery and have no manual )
any way.
its been kind of a forgotten bike..
its a 4/87 manufacture LS650 Savage
Maroon with almost 7K on it..
so I pulled it out of one of my Sea Containers this week..
then got on the Net.. and found my self here..
Your Forums look to have a great deal of info.
And now have me thinking.... Lets get the old Bike running.
Thanks
J.P.

Welcome!

this (http://www.bigcrank.com/motorcyclebatteries.mv?c=motorcycle-suzuki-650-L650SAVAGE-ALL-86-02) is pretty much the second best battery money can buy.  batteries plus usually carries them.  It is maintenance free, too.  the ones that you can add water to are pretty lousy.

Good luck gettin it back up to snuff!  We're here to help!

I'll third the Big Crank - or any absorbed glass mat battery.  An AGM battery will charge to 90% and self-discharges at 1-3% per month . . .  which means after ten months Wisconson winter storage you still have a minimum of a 60% charge to spin your starter.

(Then there's the Odyssey, which is MilSpec.)

I love my steel jacketed mil-spec Odyssey PC545MJ AGM battery but I did have to adapt the bike's battery box slightly to accept the different form factor.  With the Big Crank, you can get the same form factor and it's also an AGM battery.

Hello Again
Well The Big Crank™ ETX15L Battery
Arrived and was installed last night.
Gassed it up with High test (93), changed the oil,
Installed all coveres and seat.. did a bit of a safety inspection and put 35 miles on it today in 3 seprate trips.
all seems very good...( WAY KOOL! )it
has a bit of back fire ( not bad just a bit of poping)when down shifting and slowing..acceleration is flawless.
Now for foward controles.. I,m 6'2" and 240lbs.
I am also going to look for a outer battery chrome cover..
right side rear turn signal....muffler..and master cylinder cover.. all have a bit of road rash..Pluss both mirrors need replaced as they have spotts under the glass
some 2" to 4 " risers would be good to
What would be a good recomendation for a fuel additive?
sea foam?
could any one post a link or send me a photo of the Touring gas tankthat I have read about here,.... installed
also what motor oil should I be useing?
any other tips ..things to look for ,things I should do.. from being stored for so long?
Thanks all for the help thus far.
 ;D
J.P.

seafoam is good.
I like to use motorcycle specific 20W-50 year around, it doesn't freeze here.
