Title: Alarm systems
Post by NDBiker on 06/13/07 at 18:26:13

I'm in the process of buying a slightly used 2006 S40 and I was wondering if anyone has gotten an alarm system for the bike and if so what kind.  Any help would be awsome.

This is a multi function item. It locks all your gear with a cable and combination lock and has a built in motion sensor alarm for a reasonable price

But remember, the savage/S40 is among the least stolen bikes out there.

I have read that it is least likely to be stolen but I am a bit of a worrier when it comes to my bike.  I'm moveing to Columbus, OH soon and I am not going to have a garage for it.  Just wanting extra security.  This is the one I am thinking of getting. Just not sure yet.

If I lived in a city & had no garage, I would want security. Maybe one of the reasons the 650 is so rarely stolen is we love em enough to protect them.. I live in the boonies & it stays in the garage at night & any time its not out on the road.

If you get a cover, too, make sure it doesnt rub the paint raw.

Enjoy your ride.. Good idea, buying used.

I got a Xena disc lock alarm, the XR1 model. It locks to the disc & if the bike is rolled the alarm goes off. Sort of a loud, shrill cricket sound. Also ordered a Gorilla compact alarm as a secondary back up. It wires up straight to the battery, no splicing into the wiring harness as with the much pricier Scorpion alarm systems.

I wouldn't recommend ordering anything from the tricktape.com website though. They're VERY slow. Ordered my alarm 3 weeks ago & it shipped yesterday. The Xena was about $70 & the Gorilla was about $75 + shipping. Gorilla doesn't have their own website but I've read some decent reviews of them on the web.

I should mention that the Xena XR1 disc lock/alarm I got may not fit the Savage/S40. Their website shows the measurements of their locks though & they come in a variety of sizes.

I've had the Gorilla on mine for over two years now and it works quite well.  It's not the type with a pager or anything but it has selectable alarms and adjustable sensitivity and just works.

Hey NDBiker. Welcome to Columbus! It's a great city. I don't have much info on security measures for our beloved savages. I have a 100lb American Bulldog. that seems to do the trcik so far.  :P
