Title: Anyone Ever Use a Wrist Rest
Post by firsts40 on 06/12/07 at 10:55:29

I have seen Wrist Rest for use on the throttle to help wrist support and also I have heard they help as a some what primative Cruise Control.  Anyone ever use one on a Savage/S40?  Although they are very cheap, I didn't want to buy one if they are not worth the money.

A mate from Missouri gave me one in '03 & now I'd be lost without it.
I loaned it to another mate one day that had arthritis & he went straight to the shop & bought one.
Said he hadn't felt that comfortable in years on a long ride.
Think it was called a Throttle Boss.
The suns not up yet & it's cold so I'm not going to the shed to check. 8)

Makes for far more interesting laydowns.

If you take a 5 pound weight and do wrist rolls you can strengthen up to lessen fatigue.

Most guys don't ever get fatigue in their right hand/forearm.

At least I know I don't.

Well it sounds like I will get one.  I spend a lot of time on highways, and it sounds like it will help.

Thanks guys

Where do you get them?

I have a Throttle-Rocker on my GL1800, it's just OK.

I'll bet the Cramp-Buster (the wider one) is better.

I've got Fin-Q grips for my Honda ST1100.  I like them, A LOT!

Ebay has them.  They don't cost very much.

So you drive white knuckled down the road and never remove your hands from either grip?  Not even the left one?  How do you adjust your right hand mirror?  Come to a complete stop first?

I myself do remove my hand from the throttle from time to time.  Just in case I need to pick my nose or rearrange.

And some people do have problems with carpal tunnel (not me) and removing their hand is very helpful.

If you spend a lot of time on the interstate, then spend the extra money and get a Vista Cruise Lock.  Then you can really ride like the big dogs....

I have abnormally strong wrists and hands.  Just a statement of fact.  I built cabinets from the time I could hold a hammer till I was 23, I guess.

I use my left hand for any adjusting I may need.  No right hand mirror.  Right hand is always on the throttle, left leaves the controls usually only to stroke the tank on Glenn to see the look on people's faces while I pass them.  I wear comfy clothes, so I don't require much.  Wouldn't mind riding a hundred miles even if I did have an itch.

If you remove your left hand...then from time to time, you might want to remove your right hand too.  It's up to you.

My whole point is that the Cruise Lock, for a few bucks more, allows you to also remove your right hand for whatever reason.  It operates quickly with a flip of the thumb, and keeps the throttle speed steady.  It also is not a real "lock" because when engaged you can still turn the throttle to adjust speed as necessary.  It is a friction device kinda like the drag on a fishing reel.

Kuryakyn also makes a version for their grip too.

As the first post says, the other thing (called Throttle Rocker?) is a primitive cruise control, but this is a good bit better.

Another "friction" type throttle control (like the Vista Cruise) is the "Flip-a-Lever"

http://www.schneidersinc.com/flip_a_lever.htm

That's what I have on mine.  Works fine with stock or the Kuryaken Iso-grips.

I had a throttle rocker on my Savage, and have a cramp buster on my Concours. I like(d) them both. I prefer the cramp buster. They are not a substitute for cruise control, or a throttle lock, but I don't feel the need for either of those. Usually I just rest my hands on the grips if I need to. I can do my scratching etc. with my left hand, or if I really need my right hand, I can always pull in the clutch and coast for a bit or stop.

I have an attachment to my Kuryakyn ISO grip that does the same thing.  I use it.

That's the one that fits between the throttle grip and the switch housing, right?

That's the one that I wish I had, but I bought my Vista when I had stock grips.  After I changed grips, I had to put the plastic housing for the Vista in a lathe and bore out about 1/32" to make it fit.  Not a big deal.

The Vista is pretty good for something that fits all bikes.  The stabilizer bar that runs across the switch housing is all that has ever bothered me with it....

...so last week I made a more permanent and less obtrusive mount.  All I gotta do now is find some button head or allen head 4 mm bolts.

Mounts on the bottom of the switch housing using the screw that holds on the throttle cable.

I put on the Kuryakyn ISO grip since those picutres.  Works fine with those as well.

Oh yeah, I remember that one.

I like the use of that screw too (that's where my helmet lock used to be)...

I just bought a Cramp Stopper and took the Suzi out for a short ride on the Interstate, and it made a world of difference.  I could rest my wrist on the devise and it held at a steady 65-70 with no effort at all, and no vibration to speak of.
Just like the Superbrace, this is one small attachment that I did not know how I got along without. ;D ;D 8)

Unfortunately the Savage does not have the throttle set screw like most bikes, so when you let it go, it throttles down. Mine is the Throttle Rocker with no provision for cruise. It still helps with throttle fatigue from being able to rest your palm on the "ear" instead of the death grip. I also wear, and have worn for years, wrist supports like you see drummers and guitar players wear.Im' not talking about the ugly things doctors want you to get. Most athletic stores and music stores carry then in different colors. When I was at GM I even got them to hand out to employees on the line to help with wrist fatigue. They are not real tight, and you wouldn't think that they would do much, but you will notice a real difference. I bet Rockin_john knows what I mean.       Hutch

The one I bought is identical to the Throttle Rocker.  It is either called a Cramp stopper or Cramp Buster.....Something like that.  It takes a little to get used to in traffic, but that is only a day or two.  ove it already.

we have a "throttle boss" on my HD and the suzi, debby has a "cramp buster" (a larger version of the throttle boss) on her road king, neither are locking type devices
