Title: saddlebag supports
Post by Flugondus on 06/08/07 at 14:41:46

I am starting to look for some now saddle bags. Up til now i used some throwover ones i found on the fleamarket. i didn`t use a single bit of support.
i like the aero  stitch saddlebags but i really want some mounting brakcets or supports. the ones on the suzuki homepage look a bit cheap and very light duty. i wouldn`t trust those with large bags on a long trip.
How do you guys support our saddlebags??

the suzuki saddle bag supports that I got from Oneida suzuki are very strong. If those are the ones you are refering to, then I must say that they are more than strong enough for the heaviest bags.

i had a pair of the oem bags, too small and one tore at the flap hindge point..still under warranty for a few $ more got river road slants, just fit with the 06 longer rear turn signals..doesnt hinder wifey when im haulin..
made  a template for a pair of 1/4 " plywood inserts...
used four 3/8 1hole conduit straps, screws, 1 1/4 " fender washers and lockn nuts (after bout a year i need to change over to 2 hole straps and fold them over, still using  1 mounting screw per).have the oem supports, the bags are big enuf for my soft sided lunch bag that hold a sixer with formed blue ice freeze pac with some room to spare.larger fender washers (2" ?)
would spread out the load (5# ?)better...

The ones from Oneida suzuki are fine just got mine and the seem very solid I will fit them tomorrow and put the bags on. I got the bags from Ozark Mountain Wholesale $100 reduced to 49 . They seem ok to me.  They are real leather and of reasonable thickness too. I will try and post some pics when they are on the bike.
