From what I had gathered its okay to be alittle off with the tube size but some one else might wanna chime in to confirm.
            Good luck,

Usually the front tire flips up something and the rear tire eats it, so on any bike I own I like to have a tubeless tire at least on the rear. They're so much easier to patch. Is there any way to make that rear wheel airtight? I've seen some spoked Harley wheels with what looked like a massive bead of RTV around the inside claiming to be worthy of tubeless tires. I wonder if anyone offers anything like that here?

Why did you get a Savage?  Was it willed to you and you can't get rid of it?

Stop trying to re-engineer every inch of it (as if you could) and just ride it or sell it.

Tube size isn't that critical (though a shop would like you to think that).  As long as it isn't so big that when it is inflated that it still has some folds and creases inside the tire.  It just has to be uniformly filled.

You could probably do just as well and save a buck if you just buy a heavy duty tube at Kmart....that is if you can change it yourself.

I hate dealerships....but good luck.

Paladin knows where you can get a spoked rim sealed...

That's true, in another thread on the subject...but how does that fix his flat?

Focus.

jd06s40 ..... it will work, no worries. Tubes don't need to be a perfect match, they are designed to cover a range of tire sizes anyway.

verslagen1 ..... thank you once again. I will follow up on that lead. I'm a big fan of tubeless.

Greg_650 ..... no I don't own a Savage, my girlfriend does. And since I'm the one stuck fixing it, I prefer to fix it properly so the same things never go wrong twice. Maybe even improve it wherever I feel inclined, much to the horror of the purists.

OOH, OH, ouch ...    aahh, come on now, where would the fun be if the thing isn't re-engineered from time to time?
There are those of us who, through no fault of our own, have inherited TINKER GENES ... and we just cannot help ourselves.

I suppose we could start a "Twelve Step Savage Program" ..... ;D

Ohio, I'm with you!

To fix a tube leak, if it's not too big, I've used Slime on several dirt bike tubes.  One of them has held up now for 2 years.

I recently read an article on making spoked wheels air tight for tubeless tires, seems to me like a long and differcult process with about a 50 percent chance of it working at all. You might be better off trying to find a couple of wheels that you can fernagle on to your trusty savage, good luck.
