Title: 06 S40 the same as 86-04?????
Post by Mister_Breeze on 05/26/07 at 16:20:11

Went to shop today to buy a service manual for the wifes 06/S40.

Only one they had was a Clymer 1986-2004. Said the factory manual was complicated and cost $75 and this was $39.

Was going to order the factory one and when the screen brought up that it was for 86-06 I thought what the hey and bought the Clymer.

Now having second thoughts...did I screw up? I realize that the bike was a name change from Savage to Boulevard, but were there any other changes that the newer manual would cover? Before I break the plastic and ruin my chances of returning it.......any suggestions?

Thanks

I think the only changes in the newer models have been cosmetic.

Different lights, addition of 4 way flashers and a flash to pass button in the headlight wiring. Different bars, seat, risers. Some excess junk factory deleted (backrest and such).

Same basic bike. Same crappy manual.

And now we know why they're called "Stealerships".  They want you to pay them for their ignorance.

ok............so it sounds like it will work for me, for what I want to do. Basic maintenance and upkeep.

Just couldn't fiqure why Clymer or someone didn't cover 05-07

Let that be your first warning about the dealership.

When they tell you that the manual that they use is complicated, you need to either find another dealer or plan to do it all yourself.

$39 for the Clymer?  That sounds a bit high, too, but the '86-'04 Clymer manual will cover 99.999% of your '06 anyway.  Only very minor differences in some electrical.

Have you checked eBay?

As usual I'm a day late and a dollar short..........

I too looked it up after I bought it.

Did take some of the forums advice and saved about $80 on parts from Oneida, hope they show up soon, but just ordered last thursday.
